troyhyde
Hi folks, looks like (via search) that many folks have been able to replace a lost key via the dealership for around $23. In typical fashion, my pirate dealer here in Austin wants $83 for a key. Anyone have any suggestions of where else one could be obtained? Can I order one from someplace after providing a copy of the title / proof of ownership, etc.... Thanks for any help.

The cost is going to be quite high no matter where you go, mainly b/c the blanks are priced for Bill Gates. (My dealer here in CT wanted $40 for the blank, and $5 to cut the dupe!) The main reason is the stupid plastic Volvo tag gets in the way of the reader head on the dupe machine. ('least that's what I was told when I went o Home Depot.) I haven't tried it, but use a good knife and cut off the black plastic. See after that if a place like Home Depot or something can dupe it, and don't tell them it's for a car. Blanks for $9 and then go get them cut at a locksmith not by some bonehead who knows nothing about car keys at Home Depot. Or try Swedish Engineering where they'll sell the OEM blank to you for ~$

zomgitsavolvo
my duplicate key was 12 dollars with tax from the dealership. find a new dealer... jeebus I would, except the next closest one is a 2 hr. drive away. Doesn't matter to me since I don't even use my key anymore, outside of testing stuff. (RFID-lock & push-button starting). Though it could have been more for me b/c I needed a Master Key and only have a Service Key.

Or do you just think you're proving something by continuing to post your useless dribble after several of your accounts have been banned already? They weigh too much anyways.

You have to make sure you ask your dealer to cut a key, not to order a replacement (I'm assuming you still have one). Most decent sized dealers can cut keys for cheap. I paid $5.95 each at a local dealer.

T5power
lmao my dealership charged me 85 dollars to get a key cut and placed in an s60 key fob, also to get a new key its 45 dollars 99+ have immobilizers in them. keys have to be programmed to the car, opposed to 98 and before, where it was just a key. 85 bucks actually seems reasonable. i've heard just the key to replace those upwards of $150 : :(
SlapShot
zomg: I dunno where you are in CT, but the price sounds familiar. I ended up walking out....its silly to pay over 50 bucks on a non chipped key. I got mine at Boston Volvo Village for $14 total iirc. OP it might be worth your time finding a locksmith that can cut it if the dealership is too far.
