8 + Months No Cars

I have a friend that has 2 Volvo P1800's both cars were restored years ago by him. Both cars are garage kept and never seen winter. Last year he had an electrical problem with one causing it not to start after winter (installed a switch for the choke but it caused problems) and when he installed a water pump in the second one he put it in backwards apparently. He wanted a good professional tuneup on both (he doesn't have time anymore) and the other two items fixed. After researching the internet he found a specialty place for older Volvo's spoke with the owner and hired a flatbed to deliver both. This was in February and wanted both for summer to go to shows. The one car won first place in the East Cost Nationals a few years ago that's the condition of these cars.

Currently still no cars, the owner will not call him and when he tries calling they told him a film crew from Canada stopped by looking for old P1800's for a new movie and his were the best ones they found between the US and Canada during their research. My friend stated he wanted his cars fixed and returned and the owner said they both stand to make a lot of money off this...my friend hung up the phone.

When calling again the dealer mentioned they haven't even touched the one car and almost completed the other car. There answer "This is a restoration job and the customers with daily drivers come first." The dealer is looking for thousands for the first car that's nearing completion and it just needed water pump, and neutral safety switch. They still never touched the other and refuse to finish or call it's now 8+ months.

Any advice for him or legal recourse, he's stubborn so he refuses to call anymore.

Could he just retrieve the property like no harm no foul due to the time frame?

There not my cars I own 2 850's! I would of been there in March. My friend wanted them fixed it's over 8 months now. If there being used in a movie behind his back or there just not working on them I know he can do much with out paying.

He's more upset that he paid 500 dollars towed them there for basic service/tuneup investigation and the dealer a month later made this into a total restoration project, saying they need everything mechanical. He's asked many times just to get them running not to do anything else. This is when dealer stopped everything and has never called.

I asking everyone here because I almost laugh when I ask were his cars are. I never heard of such a thing happening before.

Have your friend inquire about how much a PAIR OF BALLS would cost while he's buying parts. Obviously, he is short his own pair.

8 months? Unless there was ANY kind of discussion related to time frame (such as "oh ya, take your time"), I'd find a flat bed company willing to help you repo the cars. Start asking around for a better shop, and maybe they'll help you fetch the cars in the hopes they'll get the work. After 8 months, I wouldn't even settle up on parts. I'd make him come to me for it.

over time it possible for a mechanic to assume ownership. They have this lovely thing called storage fees. after the cost of repairs & the sum of all the "storage" fees have roughly equated the estimated value of the vehicle they have the somehow possibility to assume ownership. Get a flat bed & some ski masks & some bolt cutters & a steel pipe. leave a note saying OMG someone stole my cars im suing you :P jk on the last part

Nothing but assumptions here based on what information has been given. Did he sign a work order for the repairs? If so ... were they open ended or specifically for the waterpump, etc. This is a big deal. If he signed a work order, sorry, going and "repo"ing the car is illegal. You have to pay for the work completed.

His best option is to get the police involved and if needed a lawyer.

He never signed anything. They were delivered to the dealer with the repairs he wanted done in an envelope (on seat) and a prior phone and email conversation. Dealer stated they are familiar with these cars should be no problem.

Here is the companies web address: http://www.swedishmotors.com/

Look under loose nut behind the wheel they do classic car work.

Your friend is slightly(maybe completely) retarded. Get him, grab an extra set of balls and go down there like YESTERDAY. At this point he basically effed himself with the time that has passed and lack of communication. There is no need for legal action because he has no idea where he stands, he should make some time and go find out for himself what the deal is. If that goes south grab a lawyer and go back there again.

Personally if I had 2 p1800s no one but me would touch them but me...
