aggarcia
I am at the point of buying the parts for a Stage III setup. Since at sone point a manual conversion would be nice, any pro's or con's to using a Turbo-Tuners vs IPD Stage III tune? I have setup several stand alone EFI systems in the past, so the tuning process is not an issue. Any pitfalls of using the TT on my daily driver? This car must still pass ODBII state inspections. Anything else I missed? AG

Chilled man
If you going to do a once and done - tune If you going to be continously changing - TT I will be dyno tunning since I have a once and done mentality
ozzimark
This car must still pass ODBII state inspections. This should not be an issue, if the car is tuned properly.
lookforjoe
TT passes all OBDII test procedures. I just did mine (NYS). As long as you disable (within TT) any emission control devices that are physically disabled/removed, their non-functionality won't set a code, pending or otherwise, and you won't fail because of that. Normal CEL's that arise due to stage 0 issues exist as with any ECU. I like TT because I can't stop f'ing with my car. At this point, I would have had to have 3-4 major revisions to any off the shelf tune (most of which have no compensation for from any of the usual vendors), so TT is well worth the price. If you are like Justin, and want a set it & forget it deal, then go with a predetermined tune.

aggarcia
Erik - I would love to see your TT in action. What part of town are you in? I have access to a dyno and have tuned several other non Volvo. Since everything is subject to change I was leaning to TT. It just seems to give me more flexibility. AG I work in West Houston, but live in The Heights. I am going to the dyno very soon, so maybe you can come by Aaron's shop (610 and N. Post Oak) and check it out, let me know. AverageVolvo
YOU WILL NOT PASS A SMOG TEST WITH A MANUAL TT ECU. The reason is that the manual tune has Obd2 disabled(all manual 850 tunes do), if you had a 95 then there is no problem, but 96-97 require that the smog tech connect to the obd2 to check duty readiness cycle. Other than that the TT has no issues with smog. Someone please chime in if TT has resolved this issue. My car fails visual due to several mods, Fmic , Dp Methanol kit, etc... Time to start looking for a smog friend. Also Cj(TT distributer may be able to load a manual and auto tune.
aggarcia
Erik, When do you go to Aaron's shop? What is the shop name? I would like to see a TT in action. I see on the TT website forum, that they offer a ECU that will do both auto and manual transmissions. What do other people with manual conversions do for emission testing?
