Pulling Timing

I finally installed my Billet 62 turbo with an AEM tru boost ebc last night paired up with a custom tune 18psi and white injectors. I have the EBC set at a current duty cycle of 75% and am boosting around 13.6 - 14.5 psi. When I raise the duty cycle to gain more boost to 80% the car will make 16.5 psi but will pull timing very hard after 4000RPM. Im guessing the fuel might not be sufficient enough for this setup. Would a better FPR do the trick?, are the injectors not large enough? What other things could cause the car to pull timing? Anyone got any ideas?

You getting knocks.

Not enough fuel , with set like yours you have to run at least greens , that is 480ccm

Also if you go close to 20 psi with 60 trim on stock rods before 4000 rpms , look for new engine.

There will be damage

Thats a juicy Turbo and the whites are the last thing you should have in there! You should be using at least Bosch 550cc or bigger.http://www.rpturbos.com/products/Bosch_52lb_550cc_High_Impedance_EV14_Fuel_Injector-30-6.html This is what i have for my S70 that is still not done!!

Your sig says everything BUT what model Volvo this is installed on!

FPR's are different between 850 & x70, options vary accordingly.

ME4.4 you can monitor/log timing via OBDII, ME4.3 you can't. Definitely need MUCH higher flow injectors and the tune that supports them. You can also make an old school det can to listen for knock.

What were the AFR's in the area you felt it go flat? If you don't yet have a wideband, that should be on the list!

Is this like the Precision 6262 Billet turbo ? AKA size of a 35R ?

If he has an 850 those 630s you have or had? would work just fine for his setup.

It is a billet 62 compressor wheel stuffed inside of a 16T. slightly bigger than the super 60. my car is a 96 850R auto, I do not have a wideband yet but I will be ordering one today.

OH! Well, in that case buy some greens and a FPR(if needed) and you should be fine. I think we all thought you meant a Precision 6262? JHE also makes a good ponit of what is your Tune setup to do? I cant see running whites and that turbo as a good idea really.

What is this "custom map" setup for exactly?

Adding fuel will not be the solution to your current problem. Your tune is not setup properly for the load you are placing on it.

Fit injectors that your custom map is requesting and if you need more fuel, then ask the tuner what he/she can set that custom map up for.

Throwing larger injectors on or using a FPR to dial it in still does not address any of the original concerns of timing/knock related issues.

The tune is setup to run on whites. Reason being I was advised to do that because I was told that these would be sufficent enough. I will be purchasing bigger injectors and fpr and have the tune sent off for adjustments. After all this turbo flows more than a k24

That sounds like a plan. I want an upgraded fpr too before tune so I can have the injectors and fpr noted on the tune any recomended brands? And does anyone got a set of greens?

Do you have an operational wideband AFR gauge? Are you positive that you are low on fuel?

Why do want to adjust fuel pressure? What fuel pump do you have? Increasing fuel pressure will put additional strain on the fuel pump.

he's trying to tune without a wideband.

My thoughts exactly. I don't want to criticize, just help, but coming to the conclusion that low fuel is the reason for timing pull, without even having a shred of data is pretty absurd. There are plenty of reasons for timing pull, not enough fuel is just one.
