ok, i had it figured out.

after i removed the center console cover I had to pry the shifter cover where "W" switch sits, and then there's enough space to remove it by moving it upwards.

Thanks god, no soldering is required, as only i had to put in a new bulb into the easy socket.

LOL, the W switch has a bulb?? is it the same bulb as the shifter indicator bulb or does is it more like the sunroof/seat heater switch bulb?

not the same as shifter indicator bulb.

the bulb has a blue rubber cover, so to me it is the same as in the sc816 radio (as the dash switches do not have that blue rubber cover).

i went with microlamps from Radioshack (2-lamp pack for $1.79).

does it have a base like this?

this probably means that my T5's S/E/W button is illuminated also, can anyone else confirm?

that was the base looks like only it was black.

of course they are. these cars are 10+ years old. it's not uncommon for light bulbs to burn out.

Now i realize that the lock override is supposed to be lighted up. otherwise how would you see it in the dark. I missed it when i had console apart. maybe i'll take it off one more time, as it's much simpler than with 850 one.
