Jaxx
What it will look like: Requirements: (2) Wire taps - posi-taps might be best, the top wire is a bitch and a half to get to. about 1 foot of wire. any gauge should be fine. It should be stranded for the tap. associated tools t-15 can help wire cutters crimpers etc. Procedure: Tap wire from parking lights, send 12V parking lights signal to fog relay cut wire from fog relay to headlight relay 1. Find the white wire on the yellow junction box under the dash. It is #8 from the top in the second section. The connector is blue. Tap the wire. After you've tapped the wire, find the relay at the top left corner of the relay box. here the relay is circled in red. 2. The wire that you want is also white. It's hooked up to the relay that you just located. After locating the wire, tap it and join it to the wire previously tapped. It might help to remove the back cover of the relay box, there are two T15 screws at the top. They are black and hold the black back cover on. The wire here is VERY hard to tap, you might try cutting it before you tap it to give you a little extra space. 3. After you've tapped the white wire at the relay, cut the end that goes up to the main fusebox. The reason you need to cut this is because the 12V signal will feed back to the headlight relay and try to turn your headlights on. You're done! the functionality is just like european models and act the same as the 850 fog light mod that paul did. Enjoy. Now you can look this badass on the street. If you have questions, post 'em here for everyone to see and share. soo... +1 if you want this sticky.
tchnprgrmr
great write-up. I've been planning on doing this for a while now. Just a few questions. During step 2 - is the relay reinstalled? Why do all of this at the fuse panels? Couldn't you just tap whichever constant power/ground is being supplied to the turn signals and send it to the corresponding power/ground for the foglight? The reason you do this at the fuse panels because if you were to run the foglights on the same circuit on the parking lamps you are overloading the circuit and putting more amperage on it than it was designed for. what that means is blowing fuses, destroying wiring and possibly causing fires. I'm guessing so you have the option to turn them off. Your way they'd always be on with the parking lights, his way still allows use of the switch. Cool, I think I may be missing something between steps 1 and 2. The second white wire that needs to be tapped into, the one that has to be cut, is that running to the relay? Jaxx
OK, that makes sense. Cool, I think I may be missing something between steps 1 and 2. The second white wire that needs to be tapped into, the one that has to be cut, is that running to the relay? clarified. the second white wire is from the relay you located. you cut the one running to the relay, but not the side going to the relay, you cut the side that goes up to the fuse box under the hood. --Aaron--
I don't get it, how is all this work different from modifying 213 under the dash? I mean, you have all this work VS. removing a relay, flipping contacts, reinstalling relay.
