blazen244
Have anyone swapped out their own rear shocks? If you have what tool did you use to tighten up the shock to the adapter piece. Every time I tighten the nut, the shaft start spinning. It has a cover over the shaft so I can't hold it with pliers or anything to keep it from spinning. What have you guys used? Keep Calm Chive On
there is no pressure on the shock while the car is jacked up so its spinning in place. try placing a jack under the rear link to apply some light pressure to help it from not spinning. or if you have a friend have them gently pull or push the shock GENTLY so that it applies some pressure to the bolt. i prefer the lightly jack up the rear suspension so it compresses the shock just a little so its not sitting there allowing it to rotate freely fully decompressed. There is either a hex bolt or head that you can hold but the shock mount is deep dish pizza style so its hard to get something in there while holding the head
blazen244
I remember helping my father when I was younger changing the shocks on his Montego, and he used the box end wrench and some tool that had four different shapes in the top of it to hold the shaft from spinning while you tightened with the wrench. That was some moons ago and he don't have the tools anymore just thought some one would know were to get them from.

AverageVolvo
Wrench and allen/torx to secure the shaft from spinning? And as suggested use a jack to put some load on the shocks.
blazen244
One other question, I have the bilstein touring shocks on it now I have four subs three amps in the trunk would the heavy duty shocks handle the load better. I'm also doing springs this.
SladetheSleeper
I ended up just using a set of needle nose vice grips and a box wrench.

blazen244
I just finished installing the rear springs and the touring shocks. The car is riding great I can't remember when it rode better. The suspension just swallows up the road. I didn't have time to do the fronts and I'm still waiting for the spring seats to come in. I've had the springs in the closet for the last five years and kicking my self for not dong it sooner. I just had the motor swapped out now the suspension, next the intercooler, then on to the turbo back exhaust.
