My First Ever Wagon...non-Volvo Content

So I recently started living a good portion of my time in Moscow and needed a daily car. I could've gotten an S60R or something but since I've fallen out of love with any current volvo's and already had an S60, I decided to get something bigger, faster, and even more likely to cost me a handful in breakages and maintenance. I looked around for proper AWD, a great interior and an engine that makes your hair stand up and I only found 2 Audis..the B7 RS4 and the C5 RS6. Unfortunately the B7's turned out to be incredibly rare around here. Having a choice of 2 cars both overpriced isn't a nice situation. Also around here being on the road means mostly standing still so I was a little worried about my left leg in the RS4.

So looked around for an RS6, started with sedans...quite rare as well and actually the styling didn't quite do it for me. I watched the movie Layer Cake again and seeing an RS6 Avant there it made sense suddenly. I'd always stuck strictly to sedans but in this case...it seems an exception was justifiable.

From pictures online most of them seemed a little beaten up, then found one with a rather sparling interior and mint looking paint. Went to see it, looked fab. In fact I haven't found a scratch on it yet  was imported from Germany in 07 and then owned by someone with 3 other cars, only taken out in summer. Downside to that it didn't come with winter wheels so I'm in the market for some now.

IRL much more than on pictures the RS6 looks pretty monsterous how it sits. But strangely, doesn't seem all that big. The size seems just right, not as cramped as the -4 in the back and when driving it feels about the same size as my S60 did. Just a very planted feeling from the Quattro, gives you the impression that it's on rails. The ride is quite stiff, more so than I expected and it reminded me a little of the first time I got into my T-5R before buying it.

Had it checked over at an official audi dealer at some expense, didn't come up with much, compression test was very good, no major dramas just some small maintenance work. So ended up buying. Well it wasn't quite as easy as that but let's get into the pics.

Stood in line for 2 hours and 10 mins at a carwash (would've left if I hadn't already paid). The line in front of me was exactly 4 cars. Yes, 4. So I'm not doing that again. It was already getting dark and the g/f was eager to get home so I could only snap a few quick pics with the 50mm not even a side shot :(

Never wanted a V8 until I drove a 500bhp supercharged jag XKR and then a Lexus IS-F. Truthfully, this is better than both. Best car I've ever driven. The torque is fantastic, "peak" torque holds from 1900 all the way to 5700 and the growl is superb. Twitching your big right toe is enough to merge nicely into traffic. It's a rebellious car, something the new RS6 lacks. I also drove a V10 S6 and it was nothing near as fun as this. In fact it felt a bit like comparing an 850 2.5 NA on stock suspension to a T-5R. Obviously the S6 wasn't that slow but its a bit boatlike compared to the old RS, too grown up.

Obviously my T-5R would obliterate this from a roll, but the sheer comfort and feel of the RS6 makes up for that. And the fact it'll do 0-60 in under 5 even while the rain is pooring down. I could always have it mapped though I'm reluctant as I've heard what a new gearbox costs. A "stage 0" is going to take 2 MAFs, 4 oxygen sensors (2 wideband), 2 EGT's, 2 N75 valves and a bunch of silicon hoses and the bill on that is going to be plenty already. At least the fuel prices here are 50% of Europe

Quick sound bite.. no AF available in video mode.

 That'll work! Are car jacking still frequent in Russia ? Honestly, that would be my only concern with that nice a car there.

It's quite all right. There's so many ///M's, AMG's, Lexuses and other boats around that are much newer and more expensive than this that I'm not too worried. Many even sleep next to the road at night. Based on the quantity of expensive cars I say I might be safer here than I would be in Brussels.

Simply gorgeous! There is a RS6 sedan at a business near my home I've been drooling over for a while now, but the wagons have MUCH better lines. I would think they could produce a manual that could handle the HP..........but popping the clutch at 6k with AWD and 450+hp somethings gonna break. :D
