How Did You Get Into Volvo's?

While I can't remeber exactly how my obsession with the boxy cars started, I think it all started when I saw a really cherry 245 turbo that a guy had in my neighborhood when I was like 8 or 9. I grew up going to the NHRA drag races, and I guess I was always just into cars, but there was something about the appearance of the turbo 240 series that got me hooked.

When I was in Jr high, I used to get every autotrader magazine and go instantly to the volvo section, I'd find a hawt 245 turbo, cut it out and put it my wallet so I could look at it whenever I wanted. Flash forward about 5 years, and my best friends parents got a 855R... bright red w/ volans... man, I thought that was about the coolest car I'd ever seen. When I had my Cummins, I secretly still wanted a Volvo V70... My obsession with the wagons still runs strong, even though I'm now rollin an S70. When I found my car, I couldn't pass it up. But I hope to have a wagon of my own someday...

Anyhoo, I know I have a problem... I'd be curious to hear your guys' stories.... :)

My mom first heard about Volvo's back in the 70's. Then after she went into real estate her first brand new car was a 87 240 DL. We babyed that car more then any other car we owned. I learned to drive on the 240, and I begin to maintain it. But unfornately my Mom had an accident in it, and it was totaled. The only replacement that I wanted was another Volvo and we got my current 94 850. Hopefully one day I want take advantage of the european delivery program and pick up a new S60 R from Sweden and take it to the Nuremburg in Germany. :)

Wanted a daily driver. My father called me saying an acquaintance of his was just trading in a "Volvo C70" for a new Corvette. I said "what is a Volvo C70" (I literally knew nothing about them other than the fact that they were coupes). He said, "Eh...it's clean." I went to look at it. Saw it only had 3,600 miles racked up in only two-and-a-half years cause the guy had 12 other cars and liked this one the least. Drove it home. Figured it would make a good daily driver because it was comfortable, plus it looked good. Gave the guy a cashier's check the next day for the same amount of money the dealership was going to give him as a trade-in.

94 black 855T my parents bought bought brand new when they came out, it was black/black sport pkg and sooo sexy. my dad and his good friend(bmw lover) and me took it out soon after we got it and romped it out real good. it was the first time i had ever gone remotely fast in a car and not a bad way to start off. my dad's love for cars definately rubbed off on me and after that we started test driving cars on the weekends pretty religiously. good way to spend time together and ill never forget the sales guy letting us take a used 993TT out by ourselves. i think my dad had to leave him alot of stuff for that one, but wow. fell in love w/ those cars too.

I grew up in Poland where i saw quite few of old volvos, never really liked them till I moved to Canada and they introduced 850, fell in love with it and always thought I'd drive one of those one day, then my first car was '86 Audi 5000CD Turbo and after two years I got sick of all the reapir bills, the ride was smooth though and that car had so many features that most of the new cars still don't have them, heated seats front and back anyone?:) I needed a new car, something fast, european and classy. So then I decided to get the 96-97 850 T5, couldn't find any in good condition so by accident I got my '98 S70 T5, a small dealer had only luxury cars that cost 60K and up, he took the volvo as a tradein 'cause it was in perfect condition, only one tiny scratch at the back but he didn't like the fact that it's old so he put a price on it that was less than other peple asked for 850's at the time, went there saw it bought it right away:) never drove a stick in my life either lol I still preffer the boxy look of 850 if only the interior was updated i'd probably trade my s70 for 850

While I was working in Ericsson I traveled a lot to Sweden for projects and training.

And in one visit I had an accident.

I was driving a Volvo and I am still alive :)

So few months later here in Turkey we have lived 2 big earthquakes on those day I was driving my parents Renault and a second car has been necessity.

First for the price I went for Golf then changed to Bora (European Jetta). Because of the distributor companies darn sales policy which is DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE CUSTOMER I left the place on my driveway saw a Volvo dealer entered building and bought my car.

Sorry it has been a long story

Was born with one, gonna die with one.

Dads car when i was growin gup was a 240DL, i thought it was the dumbest thing, then he got rid of it and got a 740GLE 5spd wagon, gave that to me, loved it, so i bought my 97 850 T5 after the 740 died @ 189k, im gonna run this one till it dies too !

parents had a diesel 240... beige, defined the stereo type, i can remember being little and having to sit in it and wait for the glow plugs to heat up in the cold of winter -_- i actually hated the cars, i can remember it to the very instant that i got involved in them, i was sitting on my computer going through autotrader looking for something original that i could modify and then it dawned on me :-) been through a 240, 760 turbo, and now my 850T.

parents had a couple 240 wagons, then my dad got an 88 blue 740 5spd n.a. and I learned to drive on that car :). Well, someone pulled out in front of him one day and he just massacred her Ford Probe. The 740 was hurt enough to be declared totalled. Well, a check was received and another car was gotten :( I think it was a grand marquis... well that car was dying on us so we saw a gold Volv 960. Picked that up. Then it was time to get another car, one I would be driving.......... well we went to Volvo and saw a red 850 chillin in the lot. So we took it for a test drive, car was moving! Pretty awesome, but then we heard a moaning ;) Uh oh, brought it by my mechanic and he spoke poorly about this car. Said it had been repainted, etc. motor troubles. Well, we said screw you and I saw a pipe dangling off the air intake. I plugged it back in and she was off again! Nailing 10 PSI. Well, we kept her stock for a few months. Then I put a MBC and cone filter on her... later moved on to muffler removal and an ECU, then got the BMC CDA Intake, biggest POS, sold that and removed my cat and threw in a resonator later on. Then swapped out the turbo, now have a stock one back on there. She's gone through alot, awwww :)
