My parents drove a 740 GLT 16V when I took my drivers license.

Really liked the car and my first job was as a Volvo-mechanic.

Worked there for 10 years now and quit on Tuesday... :(

At nights and weekends I´ve tuned Volvos for 8 years now, just love them.

A strong, fast and safe car to own and drive, perfect combination!

Last two years I´ve worked hard to make a stock-engine Volvo run fast on track.

A pretty cheap and fun thing to think about and try out, not just money involved.

PS. Merry Christmas guys, Santa is coming soon... :)

Wow. I'm thankfull to say that none of my parents or close relatives have ever owned a Volvo in their life. I guess I'm special. :)

Same here :D My gf has a beatiful 1800E and a nice 850n/a. We met cause I liked her 850 (this was back in my firebird days so I guess you can say I always liked the brick)

My parents traded in VW (2 bugs and a bus) for Volvos. We had:

'69 145 (engine balanced and blueprinted by some Indie-Mech dude my dad knew)

'71 144S - Would turn out to be my first car and I hated it at first!

'74 142 - Mom's coupe and the car I wanted at the time

Then later then added a '73 1800ES that they had fully restored.

I STILL miss that car!

It started because my parents had Volvo's for many years. So when I became of age to start driving my mother gave me her 95 850 N/A, and she got a new S80.

How I got into doing performance stuff to it and what not is another story. I wanted to do something different. I really didn't know there was a Volvo community out there that was doing performance and other modifications their Volvo's. Once I got into college my roommate was a big car type guy, and got me to look for forums to belong to. That is how I found VS.

my mom had an old 240 for as long as i can remember, then she did the minivan thing, then got a 96 960 wagon, which i loved. my dad suprised me by picking me up from work in my first car, a 1990 240 DL 5 speed. i spent the next 2 years making it faster/better, including adding a turbo, sways, strut braces, new speakers, HU, wheels, electric fan conversion, new brakes, struts, shocks. LOTS of money and miles went into that car and it never failed me, cept for when i ran it without oil for 2 months, as i THOUGHT the oil leak was fixed, and i have no oil pressure sender light, so it blew a couple holes in the side of the engine block.

a week later i had my 95 855T, and i love it.

my mom came to this country when she was 19 and bought a VW rabbit i believe. she was hit by a 16 year old kid with a supra in 1985 and ended up under the glove box smashed pretty bad because her seat belt failed she was hit so hard. after several months in the hospital she bought a 1986 240dl. had it for 16 years and gave it to me to drive when she bought her s80. i hated driving it but i know if i would have gotten a faster car i would probably not be alive. but when it was time for me to get a car for college senior year my parents gave me a list of cars that were safe and not too bad on insurance and in my price range. list was for used cars like the audi a4, bmw 3 series, mercedes c class, volvo 850/c70. i had just recently learned about the 850 R and just happened to look on ebay one day and found my car. I showed my mom, she called my dad and i called the seller and he put a buy it now option on it and i clicked it and bought it. when i found volvospeed i found out i could make a good amount of power with that engine and now im hooked. really want my 240 back now. probably wait 5-8 years and buy a used s60R.

My parents bought my sister a 94 940 NA, RWD (YAY). AT the time I actually thought it was cool, it was our sports car, haha as funny as that sounds (sport) haha. Anyways, we had the car up till 2002 from 98, and then I hit some patches of black poking ice and it broadsided a tree. After that I told my 'rents we needed to find a newer volvo, and it had to atleast be LPT. So we found this green one that claimed to be GLT, but was not. Then by accident we found a nice looking ride at a dealer. Very cheap, found out it was mis marked but they woudl give us the price. So a few days before they bought it , I went to jersey and my rents wouldnt tell me if they got it or not. So when they drove in to jersey to pick me up (yeah I live in illinois) , I asked them again if they got it, they said oh no we went to buy it but they sold it. (darn I though, but we will find another) 14 hours later we get home and holy stuff someone left a volvo in my parking spot at home HAWT darn! They did buy it, WOO HOO! now thats where i am today an almost 200 HP 200 TQ LPT volvo. (racecar) heh

was born around them, my mothers first volvo was a 140 (1968) and she had that thing for 18 years until the engine started acting up, then she bought the 240 DL in 1987 had that until 2002 (when I totalled it  ) that same year she bought the 2002 cross country volvo that she has know, and then I have my car which is the 1994 850, bought that last year. I LOVE VOLVO'S, I have worked on them for only three years thougth.

One of my moms best friends also is a volvo family, they currently have two, the 240 and a 122 (in pretty good shape too)

But yes I have been around Volvo's for quite some time know. Probably will stick with them as a car of choice. ;)

Well, like many of you, I've always been interested in cars. My family loves cars and owed many, but they have never owned a Volvo, nor shown any interest in them either. A couple of years ago, I didn't know anything about Volvos, just took them as safety conscience slow peices of $#!T driven by conservative upper middle class white weenies in their 40's. I test drove a '02 S40 one day...I have a very poor first impression of Volvos since then, never heard of a 850R, sort of liked the C70, never even knew some had turbos.

I just bought this car this summer and so far, I've been really happy with it. To be honest, I'm still not a Volvo fan yet, the company hasn't really marketed anything that I could get into so far. I really don't give a F|_|@& that they are the safest peices of $#!T on the road. I bought it because it was a nice car for $1700.

But I will say this, I owned a '84 BMW 318i coupe and that car handled very well; my Volvo, compaired to that car, handles far better, far better than any other car that I've owned (which counts for a lot because I hate braking).

But little by little, I'm turning it into something more, more than any other car that I've ever owned.

PEACE!
