How Did You Get Into Volvo's?

My girlfriend drives a 740 turbo and has close to 240k miles on it and although it looks totally trashed, it's mechanically sound. After driving hers, I was sold on Volvo for their durability. Because I needed something more "responsible" than a convertible Porsche 986 and a Ford pickup I sold them both and bought an 850 turbo wagon I found at a local dealer. I pocketed the rest of the cash and paid off some bills. And although I seriously miss the Porsche everytime I take a corner, I'm stoked that I can haul a boatload of cargo from Home Depot while still haulin jerk down the freeway.

My dad bought a 242 Turbo back in 82 and our family has had Volvos ever since.

82 242 Turbo 4Spd

84 245 Turbo

89 745 Turbo

92 944 Turbo

99 C70 HPT

98 S70 T5

96 854 Turbo

96 854 Turbo

Every Volvo that we have owned has had a turbo. The first one that I started driving was the 940, which I bought from my parents. I bought the 850 6 months ago and love it! I guess I got hooked on Volvo by growing up in a "Turbo Only" environment.

I had a Jetta/Fox/Vento (dunno what they called there) VR6, and I lined up at a robot next to a Red 850R Sedan. It breezed off like a dream and looked so hot. I knew I was hooked immediatly. When I bought my first volvo, I couldn't afford an R, so 850 T5 Sedan it was. Then one day, a friend of my dad's arrived at his house in this S70, with these big mags. Time for a closer look. S70R ... I had to have it. I went in, interruped the meeting, and told the owner that he wasn't leaving with his car. Turns out he was thinking about selling it anyway. A week later, I was the proud owner.

I was probably six or seven, my mom hauled my two younger sisters and I around in a blue 84 240 wagon. One day we were rear ended by a buick at a stop light, my mom freaked out but we were all safe. Got out and looked at the buick, it was totalled, and the darn volvo had a only scratch on the bumper. I was young but still remember thinking that that buick was crap and "my" volvo was invinceable. We had that volvo until I was fifteen and my parents traded it in for a 87 740 gle for me, slow as hell but it was a good car. I had that for two years then went off to college. My younger sister got the wagon but decided she was too much of a premadonna to be seen in a wagon, so my dad asked me to help me find a new car for my sister. I sold my 87 740 gle with 180K for 4500 and found a 89 740 gl that needed some work for 2K. Spent 1000 on seals and another 300 on a roof liner and then gave it to my sister with a grand in my dads pocket. My sister went of to college and my parents let my have the 89 740 back. I got in a wreck christmas break my last year of college with a 2003 Lancer that totalled both cars. Got 4500 back from insurance, gave 1/2 to my old man and put the other half as down payment on my 850 T5. Volvos may not be a porsche but it is certainly better all around than any car out there on the market for the price. That being said I will probably always own a volvo.

my story with volvos goes like this, my mom bought an 87 240 dl brand new the year i was born in 87 and drove that until 2000 and she decided she liked a minivan and she got a toyota sienna which was the stupidest thing ever and then after 3 and a hlaf years of driving that and me soon to get my license she got rid o the minivan and traded it in to get a 2004 s-40 which she loves to this day and still yells at me for even tryin to mess with the engine at all haha

my dad drove a 93' 850 glt na, i think the first year the 850s were in the US, well he bought it brand new and traded in his toyota celica for it and had that until i got my license then he handed it down to me with 170,000 miles on it, he ended up buying a 1999 bmw 540i 6 speed and now im driving the 850 with now 189,000 miles on it and still running like a dream, im hoping my next car will be an 850 R i love those things never drove one but ive seen one around town and it is the most beautiful car ive ever seen, and thats my story about volvos

Started with my moms 740 DL. A family friend happend to be a partner in the local Volvo dealership, Red Bank Volvo, so we got a deal on a v70. My grandma replaced her older c70 with a v70 at the same time. My dad just bought a 740 from the neighbor. I got a crotchrocket, crashed it, sold it and used the money to get my 855 turbo. We are a Volvo family and theres no way to deny it.
