'95 T5R

So theres a guy near me selling a yellow '95T5R for $4000.He's the third adult owner and the car is pristine.Has brand new IPD pegasus replicas with new tires + 3 of the origional titans. He hasn't driven the car much in the last couple of years, but has always fixed/repaired anything it needed.Has newer brakes,IPD ecu & exhaust, always changed oil w/synthetic.No oil leaks and it really is super clean inside and out.Heres the rub,200,000 miles. It's due for timing belt and pcv, wich I have no problem doing myself.I think i really want it and am not afraid of anything in particular as I can do whatever work needs to be done myself and I think it has had a pampered life despite the miles.Any drawbacks/advantages?Rare car, right? Is obdI ok to deal with or a PITA?Good deal or bad?Of course I would low ball him an offer and work from there. Thanks for your opinions and advice.

I think for 4k you should get at least a subtraction for the parts (not labor) of the items needed

OBD2 port does work on the 95's as well as the diag box

condition of the interior and rest of the car should be pretty good for that price

i would expect some records as well

Like I said the car is pristine inside and out.So it has obd port in console like my '97 and is read the same way?I think I would offer like $3g's based on the work needed and would probably pay $3500.The NEW tires and wheels are worth over $1000 alone, not to mention the ipd tune and exhaust.

Do a compression test and you'd know what condition the engine is in.

Not sure I really care what compression is,if it runs good,it runs good.if it had motor issues later on '98 T5 motors are all over up here in Washington(16T,white injectors)and would be a good upgrade.Thats what I put in my '97 when the water pump siezed.

Mileage on these cars is less of a concern in my opinion where it is clear the car has been meticulously maintained. A spotless exterior and interior, and a nice pile of maintenance records should negate any worries you have about the mileage. I'd rather buy a clean & well maintained car that has 200k than the same car with 130k that has dents/scratches and a ratty interior and no maintenance records.

Keep in mind though, if the valve seals in the head have not been replaced, they will probably need to be replaced in the near future.

If the car is as clean as you describe, I say go for it!

It sounds nice. Don't worry about the miles. Do watch out for:

Does the AC work? Does the AC leak? Very expensive to repair

How long has it needed pcv system? If it's really clogged, which they all eventually are, it will push oil out the seals. Worst is rear main seal - I was quoted $750 to replace that $10 part.

If you buy it, plan on trans flush, pcv replacement, and timing belt, tensioner, pulley, maybe water pump... About $500 if you diy (including $150 for professional flush).

your definition of "pristine" and mine are more than likely slightly different ;)

Since you'll be doing all that anyway, or should be, do the whole stage 0 and you'll have no worries for awhile.

Although nobody's mentioned it, you should do a check on the VIN to make sure it started life as a T5R.
