Ghost Shadow
Android on steroids vs ipod touch on steriods LOL next is to get it flashed to make phone calls! In the USA no voice on the tabs, rest of the world they can make voice calls. give it some time, so far the developers have gotten voice with 2g data/edge speeds! it already rooted, i got stand alone navigation installed on it already. btw- i am talking about the samsung galaxy tab ipad is not mine, just the HD2 running android and the tab is mine(wife's) i think this tab is going ot be the next piece of HOT must have technology!! Serge
How is Android running on the HD2? Does all the hardware finally work?
Boost3237
How is Android running on the HD2? Does all the hardware finally work? Yes there have been a couple ROMS which have everything working. The only thing that varies between ROM's is the amound of RAM they give you. Most don't give you all 576mb RAM. Usually you get 400 and change. A couple ROMS give you ~512- 550mb. The HD2 roms even have a setting to auto run the heret linux kernel x number of seconds after the phone boots into windows. Ghost Shadow
How is Android running on the HD2? Does all the hardware finally work? i love it! It is amazing that a phone natively is a WM6.1 phone that is a total POS operating software to Android 2.2 and be a totally different animal!! For me and many other USA T-Mobile users everything works except uhh, hmmm, nothing LOL I get 3G/HSPA+ speeds of 2.5mb download 1.5-2mb upload latency in the 80's Bluetooth streaming, Camera @ 5mega pixel, fast gps locks, market works, root access, 1MB MMS pictures, wifi hotspot, loud speaker phone, great phone call quality, reception is better, best of all....under windows mobile i could manage only about 6hrs for battery with normal usage, now with more usage and more data i get 8-10hrs of phone time. Sprint evo's, Att aria, Mytough 4g, droid x and many many others can manage only 6hrs under normal usage. Basically, i was going to get a new phone, but since the android on HD2 came out until now its about 99.5% perfected!!! its like going from a N/A automatic to a T5m with a 20g and turbo tuner. with the reliability of a honda civic!! Serge
Awesome to hear! I remember before the Evo 4G came out I was drooling over the HD2 saying that the phone would be a beat with Android on it. I have the Evo 4G now, but I must say, the back of the HD2 is a million times better looking. Although the front-facing camera on the Evo is pretty nice Good to hear these older phones are being put to new use. I remember reading an xda-developers thread about someone putting Windows Phone 7 on the HD2. The HD2 is up there in the ranks of the Evo, Galaxy and Nexus One. Regarding the Evo's battery life, though. I get ~16 hours with normal usage, and I use it quite a bit. A few hours of talking, few hours of browsing the web, Exchange account with PUSH, 3 IMAP accounts updating every 10 minutes, Facebook and Weather widgets updating, some games, tethering for about an hour a day. HtownTurboBrick
Which ROM and version of Android ROM are you running? I was there during the early stages and was testing all the alpha's and beta's, had to hard reset my phone a couple of times because of some of the betas, but I've been out of town for months and lost track of the progress on XDA. I've seen a bunch of different builds that weren't around before, I stuck mainly to FroyoStone's desire build, but I've looked at a lot of builds completed drivers list but some still show non function compass, bluetooth, etc., etc. So what's your recommendations? Myn's Warm 2.2 with sense is pretty awesome. Check it out, you might have to change the button map though. i love it! It is amazing that a phone natively is a WM6.1 phone that is a total POS operating software to Android 2.2 and be a totally different animal!! For me and many other USA T-Mobile users everything works except uhh, hmmm, nothing LOL There is a WinMo 6.5 ROM that is amazing for the HD2 its sense free though. It OWNs android on the HD2. The winmo 6.5 rom is called "energy" do a search its on xda-developers.com

Ghost Shadow
Can you tell me more about the Galaxy Tab? How do you like it compared to the iPad, and other tablets? Have you tried playing HD movies on the Samsung? yes divx, sucks no netflix yet, soon though Music? yes built in speakers are louder than ipad YouTube, etc? yep fine, some sites think its a android phone, like Hulu(there are hacks for that USB? none, propietory connection cable to usb, like the ipod cable Flash? memory or flash player...yes to the player i think thats what you are asking this is how i see it Ipad: expensive, glorified watered down laptop with many limitations Tablet: expensive, glorified cellphone Each has its strengths and weaknesses. Personally i'd choose tablet for 1 main reason.....Open source. Then there are other things too, There are more yes's in samsungs column, the apps mean nothing is they are crap. expandable memory +, phone calls +, front camera+, can overclock and undervolt+++, there is just no need for such a large device like the ipad, get a notbook then. Tablet is a glorified netbook with phone features. Dont get me wrong i like the ipad, but the tablet is small more versatile. IN BIG LETTERS SO EVERYONE THAT READS THIS THREAD WILL KNOW. I FEEL YOU NEED TO INSTALL TWO APPS. Z4ROOT AND ADFREE, BOTH FOUND IN THE MARKET PLACE. THIS SOB HAS ADS IN THE BROWSER. THIS PISSED ME OFF BIGTIME! z4root gives you superuser rights kinda like jailbraking a iphone. and adfree is self explanitory. adfree works for about 95% of the stuff. big plus for the tablet is also the size, swype, flash memory, and ability to make phone calls! kinda looks stupid when you do but, the feature is there is needed. Boost3237
wow good to know... I'm mad that the tab has a proprietary usb cable. I still kinda want it, but Android is sorta weak on the multimedia side. Could you play .mkv or h264 videos as well?
HtownTurboBrick
I'm having problems running BlueTopia and RedTopia. Running VBNROM Reloaded Alt 2, dl it by accident instead of the WM6.5 version but it seems like VBN's server has gone down. Installed radio 2.15.50 and when I run the bootloader it just hangs on the HTC screen. Went ahead and loaded up MDJ's Froyo Sense and it works well but theres very noticeable lags and delays. Any idea how to get bluetopia running?
