bergmjs
Is it the 850 amp that goes in front of the heater core or the 70 one that goes under the seat?

Chilled man
Aftermarket . Your comparing 10+ year old technology to right now. Think about it for a second. All my cars have Dual Din Touchscreen , Bluetooth DVD playing fun. To the rest of you , must be nice playing cassets

Would not the same criteria apply?

Differnt thoughts of logic. Headunits from then till now are throw away items And try buying a new one of each you will find that the aftermarket is more bang for the buck. Compared to newer cars there over priced piles of cheese that makes you go to the dealer and steal your money for pointless repairs that you used to be able to do yourself. Just teasing. 901's are ok, but they should cost less than $35 shipped. Email me, I have a few items you may want.
andyb5
To the rest of you , must be nice playing cassets What are those? I went aftermarket mainly for the ability to expand past the limits of the stock system--subwoofer, direct ipod control, bluetooth, etc. That being said, the factory systems in these cars are actually pretty capable if they're fed a good signal from a properly EQ'd source--when I installed my HU with stock speakers, my SQ greatly improved, so much so that my friends thought I had already replaced the speakers (I hadn't yet.) What made the difference in SQ was the combined effects of multi-frequency EQ adjustments and the cleaner signal from my new HU. You can come pretty close to this with a 901 and external (factory) amp.
dublin14
Respectfully disagree. I added the complete Volvo Dolby package (third speaker dash, SC-901, Dolby processor, 4x50W amp) to my car 2 years ago, and it's hands down one of the best sounding stock audio systems I've ever heard. On par with the Nakamichi factory setup in my mom's Lexus. Internal amp doesn't matter, the 4x50W amp is more than enough to get a clean and powerful sound, and the preset soundstage for the sedan is fantastic. My 901's CD player broke last year, but I'm listening to an Ipod or Sirius through the tape deck 99% of the time anyways. Once I stop being lazy I'll actually install the Blitz Ipod Adapter I've had for the past 2 years, and when run through the changer input, the sound quality will improve immensely. (I've got an SC-900/amp combo if you're looking... Sticking with OEM also keeps the factory look. That's important for me, since I leave my car parked for days without checking up on it in a garage. Personally I think aftermarket audio systems look terrible, especially in these cars, and nothing screams "break in and take me" like a poorly fitted aftermarket deck. I have a 98 S70M T5SE. 8 speakers, the 200w amp with the 816. Will just popping the 901 in there make a difference in sound? What are those? andyb5
Did you just upgrade the Headunit or both the HU and the amp. I was talking about after I had replaced my stock HU with the new Pioneer one, before I changed anything further--stock speakers, internal HU amp (4x22 RMS) That being said, I have replaced the entire system, the only thing left that's stock is the HU wiring harness and speaker brackets. I have a new HU, new speakers, a 5 channel amp, sub, and all new wiring.

Yes. Add the Dolby Setup (third speaker dash/dolby processor) and prepare to be amazed! The SC-901 has a preprogrammed sound stage for the S70 which is absolutely incredible. (Oh wait, I have one....)

Does the whole dash have to be replaced for the center speaker?

Absolutely it would. And no the entire dash does not need to be pulled, just the dash pad. The center channel dash pad is a different piece.
