T5wagon1717
Hey. Prolly been said before but just thought I'd report. I had a cheap mbc I had laying around on my car and it was quick, but a lot of spiking and fading...making the top end horrible. Thought it was my 200k motor and intercooler piping (still is partly) but I got the rx on there. Smooth boost throughout...very little fading and wow the car is quick Holds about 15psi to redline (17 for most of it) and Does that past 120. I know the 16t isn't a big turbo, but I was surprised at how well it pulls. Just thought I'd report. Anyone else have a similar setup and like to share their sweetspot in boost? Mods in sig. TealAnother note is it builds boost super fast....full boost at 2800. The spoiling is so loud. I love it.
volvoskiah
Get an afr guage to tell you if you are in a safe range. Other than that have fun!

mrbrightside2009
full boost at 2800, damn, i hit full boost at around 3700, i got a cheap $20 boost controller at 14 psi that works great, fades only to about 13 and holds it to redline. T5wagon1717
Yeah. I'm gonna try loosening the wastegate. It's spools super quick. Sounds awesome boosting around town, but don't want to break anything. Yes, love the 16t. Paired with the japanifold it's awesome In the higher gears it hold more, but hits around 17-18psi. What are most of you running with the 16t? I'm not too worried about the afrs. Gonna get a wideband, but I know a few people with the same setup + 18t and it's fine. thewhiteguy1
i am running 20 psi, tuned/exhaust/fmic it pulls so hard after 70-80 its ridiculous (compared to my old n/a, stock and every car at my school)
T5wagon1717
Yea the 2.4s are tourqy! Thewhiteguy-what tune do you have? What do you hold to redline? My next mod will be a fmic as I think that is what's causing my fade. Thats awesome though. How's the engine tranny holding up?
magicaljake
similar story with my boost controllers.... i had some ebay looking thing in my t5m for awhile until i bought a halman pro from a dsm buddy... and the difference was stupid... people will say a mbc is a mbc... but i disagree... there is defiantly a level of quality in the halman pro that isn't matched by most controllers. My next mod will be a fmic as I think that is what's causing my fade. Thats awesome though. How's the engine tranny holding up? Damn right they are, I could kill any HPT up to 140km/h, after that the horsepower takes over especially when you have to hold a gear for longer close to redline where the power falls off. One of the reasons why my automatic tranny blew after 20,000km of hard abuse and the engine didn't last long after that. But boy did she move. You can only push a LPT so hard, that extra compression makes tuning that much more difficult. HPT's are much more forgiving when it comes to that. If you seriously want to tune a LPT, go with a turbotuner or a piggy back system or better yet a standalone. You need something that you can really dial in. bergmjs
Im getting a hallman pro rx for christmas and cant wait to put it in. I just tightened my wastegate to 7psi per suggestion of Lucky and it holds 15psi on the stock tune with a TCV! I'm thinking of running the mbc in parallel with it. T5wagon1717
Jake, Totally. Boost is smoother, sooner, and more! It's awesome. Wagoneer. Yeah you were boosting a lot with your lpt too wernt you? How's your hx35 build going? You might want to loosen your wastegate once you get the mbc in as your boost will come in super early. What turbo/setup you running?

What turbo/setup you running? I assume youre talking to me? Stock 15g, mods are in my sig. Well if I run the mbc in parallel then it's still the computer controlling the boost and the mbc protects against spikes. Would it be better to just loosen the wastegate and run the mbc by itself? T5wagon1717
It overrides the tcv. Just pop it in and see how it goes. If it boost super soon, then loosen the wastegate a little. I like it how mine is, but I think I should loosen it. My mileage is the pits cause I'm almost always in boost. Lol.

Well if I run the mbc in parallel then it's still the computer controlling the boost and the mbc protects against spikes. Would it be better to just loosen the wastegate and run the mbc by itself? I'd run the MBC by itself, at least at first. That is what I currently am doing with my T5M (Hallman MBC). Boost comes on much earlier. You have to be careful at low RPM (but at least I can downshift) and kind of get used to it. Lots of fun. But I also found it easily spins the tires with that much boost coming on lower. Too easily. So I plan to change it to run in Parallel and get the slower boost buildup from the stock TCV and use the MBC to limit boost spikes to 15-16 PSI (with the IPD ECU and stock TCV I sometimes see over 17 PSI). Not as "fun" but it might just be quicker since it puts the power down better. Note I have the HPT engine which is producing 200 lb/ft at 2000 RPM (stock) and it just increases from there. So it really does spin the tires too easily (for my preference).
