Chilled man
hmm I wonder how much that tool costs... this is good information. I was intending/hoping to get all those details needed listed here for other people to do the swap. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/VOLVO-Camshaft-Crankshaft-Alignment-Timing-Locking-Tool-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem5d2cf56b6aQQitemZ400186239850QQptZMotorsQ5fAutomotiveQ5fTools I got just the cam locker off ebay for $110.00 ish AHA! The 'cover' didn't come loose from the hub when I undid it, but the hub/gear wasn't held in place, since the head is off. LOL anyhow the inner torx is a T55 . IIRC its the same as the outer cover torx also.

It doesn't need to be multi-part. I borrow the tool from my local dealership when I need it.

sconeman
Hey Kris..the guys @ IFA might let you borrow one..I'm sure he has one yeah I was thinking about that, Justin said I could use his If he can find it. I've seen the one in Haynes. I thought maybe it was different for the VVT head I guess not.

I thought maybe it was different for the VVT head I guess not. here's the difference between the 4.3/4.4 runners and the ME7 runners. I'm obviously planning to port this out. (this is a 96 NA manifold) Oh, I'm now carrying polyethylene 1/8" manifold spacers/gaskets and the one piece Stainless Exhaust manifold gaskets. Just don't have them up on the site yet... I just bought a '05 NA manifold - I'm going to chop off the ETM port & weld on the ported '98 flange :D

Dick Dastardly
I just bought a '05 NA manifold - I'm going to chop off the ETM port & weld on the ported '98 flange I want to see that..make a thread! I wish I was set up to weld aluminum (and had more practice at it!) here's the difference between the 4.3/4.4 runners and the ME7 runners. I'm obviously planning to port this out. Now you mention it..after my manifold is back on..you going to have the delrin bushings back in stock soon?

lookforjoe
nice! are you going to polish this one too? I think that's a first, that's a really good idea It may actually be a waste of time - until I get it, I can't know if there is any difference to speak of in terms of runner ID, etc. Obviously the ports are already correct & will just need gasket matching. I'm also getting a ME7 turbo manifold from Justin to chop up & look at - but since our design has longer runners, using the ME7 version of ours seems to make more sense. I'm leery of using a manifold (like Aaron's awesome work) that may cause a loss of low end power - I feel putting on the larger turbos with their later boost onset has already caused enough of a low end loss under daily driving conditions. Yes, I will remove all the casting lines & polish it (may paint it after that, though) I want to see that..make a thread! I wish I was set up to weld aluminum (and had more practice at it!) I'll take pics, of course. I won't be doing the actual welding - I don't have the equipment. I have to pay my speed shop guy $80 an hour for this kind of work. sconeman
no progress today.. went to change out the thermostat on the 98R and found a crossthreaded bolt that holds the cover to the housing. For anyone who doesn't know you actually have to remove all the accessories and the rack they bolt to to get to the bottom bolt that holds the housing to the block. 8 hours later I'm finished! hooray! (insert sarcasm here) Upside is I found the source of a very annoying noise- two bad idler pulleys, which I replaced. maybe someday I'll get back to working on this... ozzimark
Nice porting! Just so you know, since you have my engine's twin, I pulled apart my oil pump today and found a considerable amount of sludge in the slow/no-flow areas. You should consider getting a rebuild kit and cleaning yours up before the engine goes in the car :)
