Iloveboost
so when i got the car it would only do this once a month but now it is becoming more frequent and is lasting longer. when i put the key in i can not turn it at all. And no the steering wheel isn't locked or anything (think thats a double negative but whatever haha). to fix it i have to put the key in and out sometimes 30 times then it finally just turns easily. Is there a fix to this? Thanks again guys
Ihatespeedbumps
You need a new ignition tumbler. You have to order one from the dealer because it will only fit your car. Last I checked it takes 3-10 days to receive and you will probably be asked to pre-pay the part.

Iloveboost
I was researching and it seems people had the same problems on my car and it was the ignition lock cylinder. Is the same thing?
Ihatespeedbumps
Yea, Ignition tumbler and ignition lock cylinder are the same thing. I've heard about 5 different names for this thing. Just checked, and list price is about $286.

Is there a fix to this? Thanks again guys Tumbler or still be the steering lock mechanism. Old post on matthews volvo site shows a repair on this. Also read a nice repair on the key tumbler portion on volvoforums.org.uk. New cylinder would be the best, but you could always disable the steering lock temporarily if that was preventing the key from turning consistently(1/8 drill bit and a rivet). Spring on the steering lock is what you mostly hear when you turn the key in the different positions.
Jippi 855 GLT
tumbler and electrical portion of the ignition switch. i talked to the local volvo dealer and the local indy shop and apparently its a common failure in the 99+ volvos, usually they replace both the tumbler and the electrical part of the switch.
