Lurk No More...

Recommended Posts

Hello... I've been lurking on here awhile and though it was time to say Hello. This is my first Volvo a '99 V70 XC due to an unfortunate incident with my last car. Liking the car so far, no mods yet but I did score a set of Pegasus wheels fairly cheap that I need to get on it. I know Chill Man from another forum but I probably should not admit that.

I am afraid to know what forum that might be. :)

Holy stuff, man that accident looks horrible. :(

At least you live to walk and enjoy life again though. :D

The XC looks pretty clean! You said about it needing a little TLC, let me guess..........typical driver's seat wear and steering wheel wear?

Also, as Corey said.........Mike and him are supposed to come to my place Thursday afternoon.........if you want to come you're more than welcome to. Justin! Skip work and come too hippy. I invited Dave as well.

It's been a long recovery... it happened Dec 7, 2009- They cut me from the car and airlifted me to York. The rig photo you can see the chopper in the back left.

Dislocated hip and ankle

Broken Tib/Fib and shattered knee

Broke every bone in my arm but one and shattered my elbow

Broke 2 ribs

C2 vertebrae fracture

Aortic tear

Removed my spleen, lacerated liver

19 units of blood

I have my medical record practically memorized because of having to recite it so much... spent 53 days in ICU, 45 in inpatient therapy, discharged and went to out-patient therapy.

Started back to work around August from home and now I get to commute again until my next surgery.

But it's all good- I should not be here at all. I'm dealing with some nerve damage still but things are still healing and improving. I just want to be back to working on my own cars again.

Yes the Volvo has the drivers seat wear, steering wheel wear and the door panels delaminated in the centers. All the door pull trim rings are cracked and chipped. My kids started the headliner drooping so I need to get in there and fix that too. It has a new head but a slight tap which is annoying to me so been trying to figure that out. Exterior has swirls from a quick detail (Lehman's did that) and the bumper has some scuffs on it. It needs tinted bad.

BTW I know someone locally that wants to chip my Volvo, fairly well known in the TDI arena for tunes. So when I get things straightened out and some other things done, I want to let him at it.

Wow man, keep fighting the good fight. Pretty cliche thing to say but......things could always be worse.

What kind of work do you do?

- My driver's seat bottom looks like a dinosaur was doing a butt rub on it so I hear ya there.

- Tan steering wheels are incredibly rare to find in good shape but there are a few other options. Your car will take any 98 - 00 x70 steering wheel plus any 98 - 04 C70 as well. Maybe one to match your wood trim? They pop up from time to time and are pretty easy to swap around.

- I think I actually have a bunch of good tan door handle surrounds at my father's, I'll look next time I'm in Dover. If I do they're yours, no charge. Either way they're something like 2 bucks new @ Lehman York so no big deal.

- Door panel inserts, RAWWWR, I'm on my 3rd damn set, I replaced them all because they started delaminating. You can either source a set that is fine or go with the stitched door panels that never delaminate but those are hard to come by in our color. (interior color code for light tan is 3960 btw)

- Slight tap, is this more so present when you first start the car? It could be as simple as Oil Sump O Rings, which are in the pan. I just had my pan off replacing mine.....it's an in depth process but fairly easy. If you search my threads I made a write up with a few pictures. :)

- Mike, Prezman and I are considered the buffing wizards so maybe we can play with your paint when it warms up? We aren't professionals but I think it's safe to say we do a pretty good job. We're both annoying anal about keeping the cars clean.

- Tint............go see Feltch's in Hanover. I've had them do a number of my cars, my S70 was 190 and it took them about 2 hours if that......got it done excellent the first time around. http://feltchwt.com/default.aspx

Your buddy has confidence he can make a tune for ya, eh? I'd be curious to see how that pans out, the options for tuning are pretty slim for us. I had mine done @ SpeedTuningUSA out of Spencerville, MD. Oliver is the owner, nice guy although people around here will argue that. His tunes are ~325? Before you look into a tune I would at least get a good panel filter or open intake setup and open up the exhaust. You could even install a 15G or 16T turbo in place of what you have. That's a common upgrade for us LPT guys. I went with a 16T, that is getting tired so I have a young 15G here on the table waiting for the next nice day.

Holy long reply.
