Ipd
Here's the final prototype. Used vinyl letters to label the intake "I" and exhaust "E" "A" and "R" mean advance and retard respectively. Bolt holes are nearly a zero fit so you should be able to get accuracies to within a tenth of a degree. One tool does both intake and exhaust. Labeling Ok you think? Had planned on having the laser just cut the letters out or maybe have it laser etched on the black oxide for nice contrast. Speak now if you got better ideas.... Commissar this one's heading your way!

Letters are too large & don't need to be "bold" - distracting.
wizzard_al
Letters are too large & don't need to be "bold" - distracting. Personally, if I had to choose the lettering and numbering, I'd want something like this on the numbers: ------------|--|--|--|--|--|--| ------------/--|--|--|--|--|--\ ------A---/--/---|--|--|---\--\----R ----------/--4----|--|--|----4--\ ---------6-------2--|--2--------6 ----------------------| ----------------------0 This would make it a lot easier to read the numbers, instead of simply sighting the numbers so closely. And I think letters half the size Lucky proposed would work. ARGH, the post doesn't look like what I wanted. Had to add the horizontal lines, this editor doesn't allow spaces to be used as blank spaces.

Commissar this one's heading your way! Completely functional looking... The huge letters are overkill (and ugly ), maybe some etched and painted 12pt font with "Intake" and "Exhaust" and "Advance" and "Retard". I think to have each line identified by a number would clutter it up too much. Perhaps simply having every other line a mm longer so you could easily identify the +/- 2/4/6 points. The biggest problem with the other two solutions I've used was the slop. Second to that is the scale on the one. If this one overcomes the slop then it is a winner and all else is just aesthetics. Look forward to playing with the new tool!

TorqueSteer
Count me in for one!! When I get the NA cams installed this will come in handy to get the most out of them. Absolutely. When I first installed the NA cams, I wasn't too impressed, but after fiddling with the cam timing, I was blown away by the difference.

lookforjoe
What did you do to timing? Advance / retard intake / exhaust both? I won't speak for TS, but in my case, I wanted better breathing up top with the larger turbo, so I retarded the exhaust cam (much more than I thought, as it turns out! ) The stock setup is approx 4º adv. Exh 0º Int - mine is now 2º adv. Exh, 2º retarded Int. This may all change with the better breathing later head, I don't know.

When I first installed the NA cams, I wasn't too impressed, but after fiddling with the cam timing, I was blown away by the difference. Please do share what your magical numbers were. Obviously we have very different setups but I'm just curious what worked well for you. I kind of feel like any benefit the NA cams should be giving me is negated by the excess overlap.
