Malvasi
Hey guys, For those of you running the SC901 and which ever iteration of amp you have, are you running aftermarket speakers at all? I have some decent stuff I want to run and everyone keeps saying how stellar the 901 is with the amp so I am wondering what speakers you guys are running... Also, the 4x50 from the T5-R, is that made by Alpine as well as the others? Thanks everyone!
SlapShot
I've got the 901 running with the stock speakers that were in the car when i bought it. I'm not sure what if anything the PO did, but the difference in sound quality between the SC816 and SC901 is ridiculous. Couple it with a blitzsafe ipod adapter (or any of the similar hookups) and you've got a pretty solid setup for a 13 year old car. even my CCR tapes sound pretty good. SC901 (with occasionally wonky cd changer haha) 4x50 amp under passenger seat from a v70r (with harness) dolby processor (doesn't really do anything if you dont have the center channel dash speaker, i don't) and about your amp question...no idea if its alpine. Malvasi
Thanks for the info Slap, I know the rear door speakers in my car are done and the rear 6x9's sound pretty good off the 816 but I want a 901 and I am going to see what the aftermarket speakers I currently have sound in there and if it isn't very good, I will source some good factory ones and go from there. Stormtrooper1
The sound quality between a japan made 816 and a malaysia made 816 is crazy too.
washdup
I've got Polk DB650's in front, replacing the door speakers and dash tweeters, and a T5 amp (40 x 4 watts). Sounds a lot better than the 816 I had, for sure.
jschaefer7406
dolby processor (doesn't really do anything if you dont have the center channel dash speaker, i don't What?!? I have a 901 and V70R amp, also with stock speakers. Dolby processor definitely makes a real difference, even without the center channel. Surround effect is amazing, never take mine out of Pro-Logic mode. Anyway, just wanted to clarify that the Dolby processor is without a doubt a worthwhile investment, with or without a center speaker ... (n)A-GAME
I have Alpine Type-S (6.5") in the front doors with my 901/Dolby setup. Otherwise stock. More punchy bass than the stock speakers, but really nothing that special. They were $5 from a junkyard so I figured why not
Malvasi
Thanks for the replies guys... I am not usually a factory stereo guy but I keep hearing great things about the 901 so I want to try it out... I am going to put my stuff in the car and then get a 901 as soon as I find another reasonably priced one and I will then find out how good/bad it is... Thanks again! Guest Tomcat1960
Guys, I'm writing from Germany and want to couple my SC 901 with an aftermarket amplifier. You all seem to use the unit originally built into Volvo's V70R, but these are ridiculously expensive over here. So I'm after an Alpine unit (Alpine built the V70R-unit as well, as far as I know) but don't know exactly which one to buy. I could get a V12 MRV-F250, -F300, -F305 or -F357. Which one should I get? Thank you! Best regards Andreas

Here are a couple US versions I'd recommend, but again, I'm not sure how they compare to what is available in Germany. MRP-F300 PDX-F4
Tyler T5R
Alpine amps are ok, but you could use any brand.
