Remote Start

Looking through all the ads on remote starts, I am wondering what is suggested for the 850's? I def want a long range and want unlock/lock with the remote start. Would also like to be able to kill the ignition with the remote as well. Not really looking for an alarm, so if I could, I'd like to avoid having that option with a remote start.

Any volvo specific & particular brand to go with?

There is almost no remote start product that is specifically tailored to a particular brand. They are intentionally designed to be as universal as possible.

That being said, I really like Autopage products; but it's almost all about preference. The only thing I would suggest is to buy from an authorized dealer in order to get warranty support.

Lock/unlock feature is pretty much standard, provided the unit does double pulse unlock. Long range is subjective, what do you consider is far enough, 1 mile? Warranty I would consider important mostly if the installation was done by other than yourself, otherwise the only components that typically go bad are the remotes. Those are usually under a different defect warranty. Look for a good deal locally.

I thought about the viper line up and also the clifford stuff aswell. Ill be installing it myself since I prefer solder over crimp connectors.

Ideally I'd like atleast half a mile thru walls.

Check out the units with spead spectrum, 2 way remotes.

I'm thinking CompuStart? It's been a while...

Wife has had this one installed in her car since the system made it's market debute a few years ago. We had a few optional sensors added on as well. :D

It's been a very good system, read up on it if you'd like to learn more.

Yes, she has the one with pink remotes.

One thing I can tell you is that her remote works through multiple walls + a couple hundred feet. On her particular model being that it doesn't have the LED display (I opted out of that model due to her dropping her keys and them being expensive to replace.) It has a specific train of LED's that alert you to what the alarm is doing. She can set the car to start once a week for X minutes if we go on vacation for weeks, adjust the onboard shock sensor with the remote, turn on the rear defroster plus tons more.

We chose to add an extra dual zone proximity function to the brain as well, this makes the alarm give off very quick warnings if someone so much as just walks by it. If a car drives by too slow it will go off as well.

That's the way we wanted it though being that we live in the city. Nothing bad about the obvious blue blinking LED in the car either. :D

The nice thing is the alarm brain actually chirps the horn specifically to let you know when the battery in your remote is going dead. It's been a very solid, problem free unit for the 3 years or so that it's been installed. B)

I am all about simplicity, but for the scheduled timers and what not, I am willing to give that up! I'll look more into it. What kind of car does your wife drive though?

Have you ever done a remote start? Who have you checked with that says they use crimp connectors for a remote start? I have worked at multiple big box stores and when it comes to remote starts, crimp connectors are not used...

If you don't have experience with them I would suggest farming this one out... I have seen a lot of people destroy expensive stuff trying to do their own remote starts... You will also run into the fact that the manufacturer most likely will not honor any warranty claims if you do it on your own.

The Viper systems are pretty nice, DEI is easy to work with as well. The wife has an 07 Cobalt, nothing flashy but it's been broken into where we live before the security was installed hence why we got it.

You can use it as a pretty simple system as well and ignore the fancy features. I HIGHLY recommend a dual zone proximity sensor add on!

The NEW vehicle dealers AND used car dealers heavily rely on crimps for aftermarket installs. Audio Sound, Sound Security, All Around Media, Loud Systems Inc, Mickey Shore and Car tunes use crimps on cheapie installs aswell. I've repaired countless hack jobs from big name places that used come to my little shop.

I've worked at a couple dealers and currently do heavy automotive, marine, and light air craft support on contracts. Electrical is not my strongest, but I can read diagrams and understand concepts.

Now that I supplied a brief of my resume, where do I collect my salary?
