theunderlord
When you go have the cylinder replaced... do they re-key it? how does that work? I've never actually used the key to unlock the door or the trunk.. so it might not be that big of a problem.. I would eventually like to fix my ignition cylinder.. my sisters car (been driving it all week) ('00 S70) man, that thing (ignition mechanism) just feels so nice when you turn the key... Mine.. on the other hand.. well.. It goes around and around a few times before it actually catches. so in conslusion.. anyone replaced thiers? What was the result of the key? TIA. jross
I would imagine they can hook you up with a cylinder that matches your current key. It's Volvo; I think they can make you new keys based on your VIN.

beachnut
Ah well, I got mine from a Mazda surplus place and it was only $25 so I had no problem with replacing all the tumblers, plus ... no keyless entry on that car .. so the driver's door lock tumbler was shot too. You should call the dealer Kevin and see how they bundle it.

beachnut
Without searching or checking Bay13 (yeah, yeah .. sue me ), I'm wondering how easy/hard it is to replace that cylinder on the Volvo. My other experience (previously mentioned) involved dremeling grooves into the bolts that held the old cylinder to the steering column so I could back them out with a flathead. They're one-time only use ... when you screw the new ones down you knock the heads off, kinda of hard to explain. Btw, that price is crazy. I bet FCP could get you a break, although I'm note sure how they'd match up the key. Maybe by VIN#? Worth a call to Nick or Scott I'd think.
