1995 850 T Dies

After 16 years, finally getting around to updating the stock SC811 HU. I purchased an Alpine X305S and obtained the wiring harness adapter to connect to the car's harness from Crutchfield. Connecting the adapter and plugging in the new HU, the car goes dead, nothing electrical works. Technically, after reconnecting the battery ground terminal the trip comp will be a bit wonky before finally displaying the time, and upon the turning of the key the whole electrical immediately system dies. To get things back, I (immediately) had to disconnect the harness adapter, disconnect the battery terminal gave it a few minutes and it started. After dying again following a second attempt with the new adapter, and the disconnect and reconnect, the car turned over but with no spark. Did the battery disconnect and waiting once again, and the car now starts and all appears fine. I plugged back the old/ stock HU and it's fine also. The battery is new, for what it's worth.

Crutchfield hasn't a clue. I checked the 850's stereo wiring diagram and the harness hooks up with all the right pins/leads of the car's harness. However, the adapter connects the ground at pin 6A but there appears an extra ground on the factory harness at pin 14A. Same for the battery +12: the adapter connects only at 4A but the diagram shows one at 12A also. Does this matter?

Any ideas would be greatly, greatly appreciated. I'm stumped and staring at a bunch of not cheap new stereo equipment sitting in my living room that I fear to touch for risk of causing expensive damage to the car.

THANKS!!!

In the event this should occur to anyone else searching here, after sorting through the nature of the connections, I narrowed it down to the sole illumination (standard orange) connection from the adapter/ new HU to the factory harness, nothing else made sense. And things still don't. I have no idea why this caused the problem. I simply cut/ ignored this connection and all works, even the illumination If someone knows why, please let me know. In any any event, while I remain confused, it's ok because I have tunes..... Cheers,
