DetailingTurboBrick
Hey Everybody, I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Jamie and i just picked up a 97 Volvo 855 GLT Wagon. The wagon has 157k on it. I picked it up for 800 dollars. First impressions of the car is even completely stock the car has alot of pep in in compared to my old 940 turbo wagon when it was stock. I plan on doing a fair amount of stuff to it over time, but first pull the head,The headgasket is gone according to the previous owner haven't drained oil or anything to confirm this and it's not smoking or overheating at all. Then a 15g and supporting mods. If any of you guys are in the Richmond,VA area send me a message would love to meet up with you guys. Oh and i need to fiqure out a new vanity tag lol that was the tag off my 940 wagon

matt b
Hopefully it doesn't need a HG. Looks fairly clean, especially for the price. Nice score! It's a low pressure turbo, right ? (n boost gauge, but GLT from 97), so it's basically like mine. A 16T or a 15G REALLY wakes these engines!

matt b
What signs did the seller give you to confirm that it could be the HG ? Sounds like he was blowing smoke. (really bad pun, sorry ) You might want to do the PCV before too long, always neglected, always needed.
DetailingTurboBrick
He said his friend told him it was blown. There is no smoke, heat works fine car doesn't overheat is not eatting or leaking coolant. And the pcv valve stuff is already ordered going to take care of stage 0 before modding anything
volvo940tuner
If the head gasket was BLOWN (not just leaking), you'd know it.You could put a block tester on it just to be 100% sure though.
bordvo
Welcome and nice p/up for 800. Look forward to see the progression of this wagon :D
Migilla
Could the smoke be from a turbo oil feed leak? (I'm N/A but read every thread. Little knowledge=dangerous thing.) Any coolant in the oil? I agree that a blown HG would be a definite no-go.
DetailingTurboBrick
Have not droned oil yet plan on doIng it tomorrow. The car is leaking a little bit of coolant closer to the drivers side. Car at hottest point has only been halfway up. Heat works great. The oil will tell a bigger story along with a block test. I already have a 15g from my old 93 940 project will be throwing that on soon along with t5 ecu and injectors.Oh is anybody in the central va region?
