Slater Posted February 20, 2005 Author Report Share Posted February 20, 2005 OK.I checked out the cable.It does not appear that it will work.The negative terminals on the RCA plugs don't seem to be hooked to anything.They should go to the amp for a common-ground configuration, shouldn't they?Then the ground wires go to from the amp to the chassis, right?I wanted to install the eclipse 3424.Please help -Confused in Colorado←Depends on the head unit. The stock amp expects a non-isolated ground. Most head units have isolated RCA grounds, some don't. Depends on what you need. Slater was very helpful in getting it figured out.I ended up first on my own just installing a noise filter on the 12V suppply to the HU, which helped, but did not solve it. I then put ferrites on the RCA cables, helped more, but not a complete solution either.I then got real frustrated, and cut up the OEM DIN plug and Slater's adapter, and wired things directly, but did not use the DIN cable shielding. No worse, but no better.Finally I did what I should have done to begin with and asked Slater for help. His recommendation was to connect the RCA shields with the OEM DIN cable's shielding.With his help I got it solved! The problem with my setup is that the HU wanted the RCA shielding for each channel connected to the DIN cable shielding for each channel, and I also grounded the DIN cable shielding comming off of the ground and remote turn on wires to the HU chasis for good measure. My amp ground cable is on the HU chasis as well. No more noise! I guess that means that for Alpine HU's Slater would want his adapter to have the RCA grounds connected to the DIN plug's outer metal coupler, which on the OEM harness connects to the cable shielding, and have users ground to the HU chasis...Now I am truly enjoying some tunes The 9831 was a bit of a pain to figure out, but once I got it tuned correctly it sounds awesome.Thanks for the help! Yeah, I can make the cable you speak of. It's for the minority of HUs out there, including Alpines, that expect non-isolated grounds on the RCAs. I bought a used 1998 V70R in November and had to pull the "Radio/Amplifier" fuse since the battery drained every night so the care wouldn't start. I pulled the HU out and I didn't see anything obvious, but I was hoping you might have some insight into what I could look for or trace for the cause of this.
