Well it came off some septic web site so you tell me?

Like septic tanks? They make short shifters ? :P

The US S/V/C 70 series cars are basically the same (just hear me out) from 98-00. (P1 cars) they had a redesign in 01... to the present. so any short shifter, will fit 98-00, not +MY01. (P2 cars)

edited for clarity.

Only a shifter made for a 98 will fit on a 98. The 99+ stuff will not work without having to modify things. This has been gone over quite a bit in the past.

Right now you can get a 98 short shifter from Eurosport. I have no problems with mine sticking at all. However installation is a PITA and you will break the plastic piece that the shifter fits into when you remove the stock one so budget an extra $40 into the price. Also I think VMS was looking into making one as well.

See that white piece of plastic (ball seat) holding the shifter in? You will probably curse a few times trying to get it out. Most likely you will have to replace it. I would suggest going to Volvo and ordering one before you start. Also putting the cables back on is not fun at all. My suggestion is to press them on with a big pair of pliers before putting the shifter back in. It takes all of 2 minutes and you will probably be there for hours trying to do it by 'hitting it hard' until they click onto the little ball of the rod. You will see what I mean if you try to put it in.

Hey guys i would like to tell you about a Vms product or kit that we are going to offer. This is to shorten the throw without touching the shifter. This is done at the tranny. The pivot point is what needs to be changed and can be done. I will have pics in the next week or 2 of this product as i am going to be testing it.

For the side throw, you could just tap a new hole a little below the current spot the cable hooks onto the tranny, on that lever. Do it the cheap & easy way :P

I'd be interested to see how you're moving the pivot point. On the earlier M56 setups, it looks like the fore/aft arm is pressed on, and it doesn't look like it can be easily removed (apparently this was rememdied on the M66 in some form). Also, the newere transmissions have a big counterweight on that arm; would it be possible to integrate something like that? It really helps the throw...
