Evap Leak

Been throwing a p0442 for a while (small EVAP leak) and wasn't really paying attention but emissions is up.

Checked J-hose on the charcoal canister - covered in some dirt but no cracks, no wear, whatsoever.

I'm going to make a DIY smoker (wet/dry vac + dry ice) and charge the system, but I was wondering if a bad gasket on my fuel pump could be the cause? When i replaced the fuel pump a while back I cut the gasket in removal, and I know it doesn't seal as well as before. Can the leak from the fuel pump gasket cause this?

The EVAP system deals with containing vapors not liquid gas. If a gasket at the fuel pump was leaking, wouldn't you also have a gas leak? Just asking... FWIW, I also had recurring P0455 and P0442 codes and couldn't find the culprit line. I had a shop do a smoke test and sure enough there was a cracked vent line underneath the car coming from the fuel tank. So bottom line, I think doing the smoke test will be helpful for you.

I'm doing a smoke test tomorrow.

The FP is located at the top of the tank, so a bad gasket wouldn't lead to fuel leaking out of the tank without a really serious amount of sloshing. Vapors on the other hand ....
