Brad850
Found some yellowish/white gooey stuff in the pcv hose that connects to the PTC. Does this have anything to do with coolant and oil mixing due to a possible blown head gasket? Or is this just something you would normally find in a clogged up pcv system. I have a very slow oil leak which leaves oil all under my oil pan and transmission mount and I can't figure out what its coming from. From what I searched it's probably the rms or trans seal but this white stuff is making me wonder if its something else. Thanks guys.
Dave 54
It's just oil and condensation mixed from driving in the cold, totally normal. There is a thread for a catch can istall on here so you can drain that crap out if you want.
Ihatespeedbumps
I was unsure when I read this thread title What you were seeing is condensation mixing with oil. Take lots of short trips?
FCP Euro
If you have a lot of this in the hoses, I would definitely recommend a catch can. It will keep this stuff from clogging up your PCV lines and keep it from being sucked into the engine.
Brad850
Ok I think I'm going to do the catch can asap. Would this be a decent one to buy? http://www.maperformance.com/jaz-one-pint-mini-breather-catch-can.html Thanks guys... and sorry for the title haha. Brad850
O and one more question. Is it a bad idea to keep an engine drained of oil for an extended period of time? Like say two weeks?
krn
>> O and one more question. Is it a bad idea to keep an engine drained of oil for an extended period of time? Like say two weeks? Yes, because if you do, chances are someone will forget and start the car (I'd just leave the old oil in until time to replace.) The condensation issue is greater if the car is parked outdoors. I've noticed with our garaged cars I don't see any. Cars parked outside have it up and down the oil dipstick first thing in the morning.
