Snabb T5M
So I got the MSD 6A ignition box and it comes from the factory setup for an 8 cylinder. There are 2 wires to cut if using on a 6 or 4 cylinder motor. So for a 5 cylinder what do you cut?
SeedyRom
Was interested in knowing this also. Searched and found a thread about it. Here's a link: http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.php/topic/80894-msd-6a-or-6al/
Snabb T5M
That link was useless as it didn't discuss which wire to cut for a 5 cylinder. Is it as simple as cutting both the 6 and 4 cylinder wires and splicing them together? Was interested in knowing this also. Searched and found a thread about it. rj240
You can leave the wire, as it only affects the tachometer output signal, and not the operation of the actual box...
Snabb T5M
So then leave the 6A box as it came delivered, setup for an 8 cylinder motor? I guess I don't need the MSD tach feature since my EBC has my shift light tied to it. lookforjoe
No need to cut anything. Just wire the (+)(-) from batt to box, feed the amp signals in, and the outputs back to the coil. Should be six connections, done. The manual shows all possible layouts.
the commissar!
I've been contemplating one of there, why did you choose a 6a over a Digital 6a?
Snabb T5M
I did get the digital 6A, #6201. I've been contemplating one of there, why did you choose a 6a over a Digital 6a?
the commissar!
I did get the digital 6A, #6201. Ok cool, since you referred to it as a 6a I was confused. I was thinking the digital just sounded better than the older analog unit and unless you just got a smokin hot deal since they are being phased out...where did you find the best price? I'v seen it for ~175 & free shipping a couple of places...waiting for a usable StreetSide coupon to show up in my email LOL!
Snabb T5M
Got the Digital 6A from Jegs. They f you on the "handling" charge.
the commissar!
Handeling charge...WTF! All this talk got me looking again. I found a $15 off coupon online so I pulled the trigger at StreetSide for 159.00 shipped! I'm such a sucker.
LongBeach 850
Why not go 6al-2 for 30-40$ more? 2 step is worth every penny :)
the commissar!
Why not go 6al-2 for 30-40$ more? 2 step is worth every penny Quote from MSD site... "There are two rev limiters; one for high end overrev protection and another you can activate off a clutch or transbrake to set a launch limit. This feature will help your car blast off the starting line!" Got fully adjustable high end rev limiter in TT and I don't think I'll have to worry about blasting off the starting line in my DD any time soon... I'm a little too old and smart for street racing . EDIT: Sorry for going off topic...Now tell me how to hook that sucker up! Which version of the instructions did you use?
