Playing Back A Dvd As A Cd

Okay, I really want to know why, with the price of DVD reading technology being as low as it is, audio equipment manufacturer's havent started just making all of their equipment able to read DVDs, regardless of whether they support DVD Audio or not. I mean, you could fit a LOT of music on a DVD, GREAT for making mixes for long road trips.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew of anything like this, especially if it comes in an HU-613 compatible CD Changer flavor. :P

I think the car audio companies are starting to look into this Matt.

I've always wondered that too. I mean, MP3 DVDs would be great. AFAIK, there's only one portable burner by sony that can do that. But as for car audio, any decks that support it yet?

Not DVD burned MP3 discs... not yet..

Way to change the Avatar Peter! Looks good, way to floss the headlights..

Haha,... yeah, I've been using my laptop lately and putting dvds in it (MP3 DVDs) but it can get a little confusing with about 170 hours of audio on a dvd.

I've been thinking about this.... Wouldn't you be able to have everything in individual folders, just like you do on an MP3 encoded cdrom? It wouldn't be that hard to jog though individual folders.. would it? That's why I like the idea of the Kenwood Music Keg, you can have custom playlists created and stored, that way you wouldn't have to do anything, just open the playlist and you're set. (granted you wouldn't have the DVD screen, which is what I think Travis' initial inquiry was about. (in this thread here)but hey.. it's just a thought. :)

One problem that you'll run into with HDDS is that you'll have a load of problems if you drive on crappy roads. They are pretty prone to skipping. I think laptop hdds are a little more resistant than the standard drives which is why they generally run at much lower rpms and with lower rpms your search time skyrockets. <_<

yeah, that is a very good point, considering alot of our volvos are teeth shattering...laptop drives are well protected...i'm sure that manufacturers of the hu's with HDDS are aware of the problem, but haven't figured out a good way to do it....what a shame.
