Need Help

I'm bidding on a 16T turbo just need to know a few things. The turbo looks to be inn good shape, it had the IPD CBV and the blue spring installed. The questions are what is the most I should look to pay for this turbo, Once I have it things to look for as far as play. What does shaft play mean and I've heard side play mentioned before to like to know what it is as well? Thanks in advance.

Usually lower mileage 16T's with minimal shaft play sell between $200 and $275......MOST COMMONLY. By lower mileage I mean, let's say sub 120K miles or so. Miles aren't really an issue, it's the shaft play you need to be more concerned about. I would install a 200K mile turbo onto my car if the shaft was still tight and crisp when hand spinning.

Once you get excessive shaft play the wheels actually scrape the housing and can send dangerous particles into the motor. Usually before that happens the turbo gives you a warning by passing oil into the charge system under boost. It can also make it's way into the exhaust and cause excessive smoking/plugged cat, etc.

Before you commit to buying the turbo you really should email the seller and ask just how much shaft play the turbo has........in/out and side/side. Make that your first move before bidding any higher.

"In/out" shaft play is how much give the shaft and wheels have when grabbing either wheel and pullling/pushing in/out.

"Side/side shaft play would be grabbing one wheel and wiggling it from side to side.

Hope that helps. :)

Thanks that did help a lot."There is very little side play in the turbine shaft, the unit has approximately 120K", from the owner of the turbo. What do you think, I'm not going to pay more than 250.00 for it, I still have to get an exhaust and a tune.

With those miles and condition you'll be doing pretty good if you get it shipped for ~$225 or so.

Email the seller and ask what they think about $225 shipped, sometimes they'll end an auction early.....never know. :)

Personally I'd pay up to $250 shipped. Take shipping into consideration, it's going to cost the seller nearing $20 or so more than likely.

I have one with 80k miles I will let go for $200 + shipping if your looking for a lower mileage one ;)

I'll have to wait and see how it turns out I already have my bid in. If someone out bids me I'll hit you up for sure.

That's a good deal, I would take him up on that if ebay falls through for ya.

Beware though, Spanky likes including "ADULT" novelties in his packages.

I see you guys enjoyed the black strap-on wedding gift that I sent with the turbo.

OP, never trust forum member who has to give his car a blowjob just so he can convince her to take him to 7-11.
