rbodor3
EVAP P0442 code thrown, keeping me from passing emissions. The gas cap was pressure tested and passed, so I don't think it's the cap. I made a smoke tester out of a fog machine, and tested the EVAP lines at the front of the engine (lines going to the intake and hard line coming from the charcoal canister) shown in RED No leaks I checked the notorious "J-Hose" on the charcoal canister at the back of the car, along with the soft rubber line connected (shown in BLUE When I replaced the fuel pump I f'd up the gasket, shown in PURPLE. I rarely smell much gas if any at all in the interior, but is it possible that having a small leak at this point is causing EVAP to throw a code???? And wouldn't it throw something besides P0442? FCP Euro
I would definitely replace that line and reset the code to see if that is all it takes. If the code comes back after that, then it could be an issue with the purge valve.
Ihatespeedbumps
The evap system can measure a leak as small as .5mm. So a poorly sealed fuel pump could cause this.
rbodor3
resealed the fuel pump, waiting to see if the code comes back. Thinking purge valve also.
MrWinkey
If the code returns despite what you have posted....put a new FACTORY fuel cap on it. Make sure to give them the emission code if asked.
rbodor3
Replaced the gas cap with a new aftermarket one for only $6 shipped next-day to my door. Went through the drive cycle, and the EVAP code didn't show up. Unfortunately it's now throwing the Rear O2 code (have it unplugged and zip-tied to the under body). Will reinstall the rear O2 and hopefully pass emissions this week.
rbodor3
EVAP code went away. So, long story-short, if you have an evap leak replace the gas cap because it's cheap and easy. Even though I had my cap pressure tested, apparently it was still leaking. Now I'm getting P1172 code (Long term fuel trim lean) I suspect this is because I replaced my original orange injectors with the R-series big greens, without having a re-tune done. I was hoping it would richen the mixture a bit, but it didn't. I can't figure out why it's LEAN and not RICH though.
