DetailingTurboBrick
Hey Everybody, So I started hearing this noise this morning. I can't tell 100 percent if it is rod knock or not. If it is rod knock can I swap in a hpt 2.3 long block or short block? I already have a t5 ecu and whitetops the car has 158k on it currently. If I run a thicker oil will that a small bandaid? I her attached a video below from the car this morning and I know about the serpentine belt tensioner have a new one waiting to put in lol. Let me know If the video does not work, I'm posting from my iPhone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3DC87YJ7FM&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Keep Calm Chive On
At first I wanted to say a collapsed lifter but as you rev'd it more it got a deeper tone... I'm at a loss because even when I blew apart a piston skirt on my old cherokee it didnt sound that deep of a tone...
Black Betty
Either get a stethoscope and check it out or drop the pan and check. You'll get hundreds of different opinions here from a video.
Falcone
Sounds like some slap and your lifters are obviously not getting enough oil. Pull the oil pan and check the oil pick-up and check the rod bearings. I'd crack it open from the bottom to see what your dealing with before buying a new shortblock, but thats just me. Don't drive it anymore though.
BlackT5
I can't see your video at work, but here is what my bent rods sounded like. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v186/BlackT5/Misc/?action=view¤t=rods.mp4 If you are pulling the pan, look for marks on the crank counterweights where the top end of the rod has made contact. If you see this, your rod(s) probably look like this.
