Oreo931
Cool, thanks. I'm using some generic one from the hardware store, so I don't know if that's the problem or if it's the rivets.
Jack8745
I ordered 15. I have only used about half, but every single one cracked. FCP lists them as OEM...but maybe they aren't? same thing is happening to mine. i got 25 and about 7 went to waste. maybe FCP will shine in i sent them a PM about it
Keep Calm Chive On
you can get snap grommits from most lowes / home depot. They are similar to what your talking about except they snap into eachother. It allows you to re-use them as long as you are gentle and also you can get them in different lengths. Basically they are plastic buttons with heads on them. I am not sure how well they would hold up in a wheel well but I have used them on interiors & door panels before on my Jeep & VW. The worked fantastic because they had a flat backing so it would make them flush up well. Again the exposure to elements might make them pointless in the case of fender flares & such but at the tune of like 5 dollars for a 20 bag (not chronic) it might be worth a shot? ohsleeper
when i did this i had a mix of fcp and dealer ones...some of them cracked, but i thought it was a temperature thing and i started warming them up before i gunned em. maybe it was just that the dealer ones are better but they look identical, i couldnt tell them apart. --Aaron--
I use the Genuine rivets and even with my Craftsman rivet gun locking them in extremely tight I haven't had an issue. My guess is on cheaply produced rivets.
the commissar!
I just use standard aluminum pop-rivets. Cheap, strong, don't corrode, in a week they are indistinguishable from any other fastener in the area.
