Ipd Softloader Not Worth Trying

Recommended Posts

My S70 proudly sports many IpD parts: strut brace, anti-sway bars, TCV, silicone hoses, wheel centers, ... I could go on. The point is I trust them. ...Until now.

I have a 1999 GLT. I added a 3" DP, Borla exhaust, Short ram intake, 395cc injectors, and a 16t turbo.

The last and most important piece of the puzzle to bring it all together was a re-map. ipd softloader was the way to go.

Ken Pruett from IPD spent a great deal of his time talking to me and I have to give him props for that, but as soon as my $914.00 payment went through, all I get is voice mail.

It's been over two months since I paid full price for this tune. First I was told adding a 16t to lpt engine was out of the ordinary - even Lucky from IPD admitted that was not true. Then I was told adding a 3" exhaust, and the corresponding CEL for inefficient CAT was unusual and maybe it would cost me an extra $300-$700 to get a "custom" tune.

After calling every day for a week and being told Ken is not available, I get an email saying the tune guy is in Thailand and my car is "not at the top of the pile".

I called yesterday to ask for information on how to return the softloader and have not received a reply.

For all of you who support IPD and enjoy the quality of their after-market products - which I do also-

Be aware their customer service is not what it once was.

I'm confused as to why you're not happy. Does the softloader not work? No increase in performance with it? You obviously received what you paid for, why bash them?

In regards to the suggested misleading information, maybe they could've been more accurate with their feedback but it's also your job as a consumer to "buy smart". Meaning, research what you're buying in every aspect before considering the purchase.

I know one thing, for $914 I would want to know every little bit of information there was available and be educated in regards to the components installed on my vehicle.

There is more than one IPD employee also.

If you search around the site you would have found PLENTY of instances where 15G/16T's are commonly being installed on LPT's. I would have done that research before even purchasing the upgraded unit for obvious reasons.

Same deal with the full exhaust, if you would have searched initially you would have found that the quote you received for a "custom" tune probably involved deleting the rear o2. There are extremely cheap ways to get around that issue and your search results would've revealed that. One being an angle in bung which naturally points the rear o2 downstream to avoid getting a direct sniff, another being an o2 spacer.

It sounds more to me like research is lacking on your end. If I'm missing something I apologize.

What is it that is "wrong" with the tune? You never really said other than you have a CEL for the cat.

Was it an off the shelf tune for a stock car that is not stock resulting in less than stellar performance?

Please clarify your complaint with the tune.

I think if you guys re-read the post, the OP has not received his tune (yet you received the hardware to do it?). It sounds like he's getting the run-around from IPD regarding (likely MTE) making a custom tune for him. It seems a little strange that MTE wouldn't after this many years have an ME7 tune for an LPT engine with a 16T, +1 injector size and full exhaust ready to go off-the-shelf. My instinct is that this tune is readily available and something has gotten miscommunicated.

Perhaps you should try speaking with someone other than Ken over at IPD. It is very unlike them to take a customer's money and not deliver the product...in fact it's nearly unheard of.

More than likely not IPD's fault. Not the first time that MTE has left a customer hanging for a long time because they have apparently better things to do (he seems to be in Thailand quite a lot)

And I'm sure that once Lucky sees this post, if he hasn't seen already, Lucky will jump to immediately fix this situation. Lucky "is the MAN!" ;)

Well that was until Lucky posted he is leaving IPD. :(
