Ipd Softloader Not Worth Trying

Recommended Posts

More than likely not IPD's fault. Not the first time that MTE has left a customer hanging for a long time because they have apparently better things to do (he seems to be in Thailand quite a lot)

QFT .

I can attest to that

The complaint is that I haven't received the tune, nor have I received an estimated price or an estimated delivery. I've been told that my mods are unusual and will require additional programming, but everyone I've spoken to says they are common. The CEL is not because of the tune, it's an inefficient cat code since I put on the larger exhaust. I put an extension on the rear O2 sensor to get it out of the stream a bit, but I still get the light every 150 miles or so. I assumed writing the rear O2 sensor out of the program is pretty standard, but Ken emailed me that I would have to give him specifics about the placing of the sensor. On March 25th I emailed him several photos of the sensor with a tape measure next to it for clarity. Since then, I never heard back. I called and left messages about 3-4 days straight (nothing but polite) and finally got a message that I was "not at the top of the pile".

I do believe I'm getting the run-around (ie. being lied to) I would prefer to have IpD follow through and send me the tune, but it seems my only alternative is to return it and start over with a different company.

I welcome any suggestions more experienced people might have on this dilemma.

Thanks for your reply, Aaron. And I totally agree with you. I spent months researching all my mods. As for the rear O2, I did add a spacer. I still get a CEL every 100 miles or so and erasing it is a pain, so I asked if they could write the rear sensor out of the program - again my research told me this was not uncommon.

The reason I am "Bashing" IpD is because after I sent in the identifier info I never heard back from them. I waited patiently, then sent a few polite emails. Still no answer, so I started trying to reach Ken by phone - no luck. Finally I get an email that there is no info on my tune, the guy is in Asia, and I'm not at the top of the pile. No info on possibly when or possibly how much. So I've spent my money, done my part, and haven't got anything in return except you'll get it when you get it. And then - you can return it for a refund.

I think you'd be pissed to. All I want is for them to stand behind their product, live up to their advertising, and be honest.

I'm confused as to why you're not happy. Does the softloader not work? No increase in performance with it? You obviously received what you paid for, why bash them?

In regards to the suggested misleading information, maybe they could've been more accurate with their feedback but it's also your job as a consumer to "buy smart". Meaning, research what you're buying in every aspect before considering the purchase.

I know one thing, for $914 I would want to know every little bit of information there was available and be educated in regards to the components installed on my vehicle.

There is more than one IPD employee also.

If you search around the site you would have found PLENTY of instances where 15G/16T's are commonly being installed on LPT's. I would have done that research before even purchasing the upgraded unit for obvious reasons.

Same deal with the full exhaust, if you would have searched initially you would have found that the quote you received for a "custom" tune probably involved deleting the rear o2. There are extremely cheap ways to get around that issue and your search results would've revealed that. One being an angle in bung which naturally points the rear o2 downstream to avoid getting a direct sniff, another being an o2 spacer.

It sounds more to me like research is lacking on your end. If I'm missing something I apologize.

they also told me that a lpt with a 16t, 350cc exhaust and such was uncommon, to which i felt like saying yes as is tuning a volvo in the first place and that what you guys specialize in, granted its not as common as the hpt but i mean most of the lpt guys do it, it works well and decent power can be made. I know rica has a st.2 lpt tun for such a setup as does autotech. I can kind of understand that they may not have ur tune ready yet, but regardless they should respond and keep you informed with whats going on in the process

No customer should ever hear that they are not on top of a pile ... especially one that has been buying ipd stuff and now has forked over 900 big ones

i am very interested as to how this plays out. In the near future i'll be in a market for my lpt's tune

Agreed. There's not one member here that wouldn't be upset after spending that kind of money, only to be left hanging. We've all had great experiences with IPD, but I don't think its right to disregard this guys claims just because "they wouldn't do that".

As far as the tune goes, I think IPD has always been overpriced. I paid a little over half that for my WothRLine tune (not sure what the current rates are), and Jan can write literally whatever you want into the software. If you need a custom tune, I feel there is no better than Jan. Not only did he work for Volvo cars for 20+ years (most of them in powertrain development), but he's always been very helpful and informative, both before the purchase and after. Mine was done over a year ago, and if I have a question, I ALWAYS receive a response within 24 hours. He also doesn't give a runaround about custom tunes, where most only sell standard, off-the-shelf maps. Nothing against IPD, just a thought ;).

Hope you get this resolved,

Joe

Ok, sorry. I didn't mean to come off as an ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD I just misunderstood your post. It sounded like you got the tune and still have a problem that wasn't described. Yeah, I'd be sort of pissed of too. If I were you I would probably contact another IPD employee, perhaps one with some serious authority and tell them that you'd like to reach a conclusion before you take your money elsewhere. You said you have not yet paid correct? I'm assuming this because of you saying they haven't given you an estimate or anything.

I paid $914 for the softloader. Ken told me it would be an additional $300 and hour more than that because I modified the car. It's the additional price I'm not getting an answer about or any idea on when I can expect any reply.

It seems like most of the issues I've been seeing on here on any cars with moderate mods are the ecu tunes from various shops.

As expensive as these tunes are, why arent more people running stand-alone ecus?

Hell, most of the issues could be solved with a wideband, EGT gauge, an Apex-i SAFC, and an MBC.

You don't need a "Special Tune" You need a regular Stage 1 14.5 psi tune for a T5 70 series. Problem solved.

hes lpt...im not sure how well that would work but idk im just pretty sure it would not be ideal
