'03 S60 Seat Belt Remainder

I just bought a '03 S60. I had it checked out by the local independent Volvo expert. He did not find any issues with the car and did a diagnostic check, which came out fine. Well, neither one of us realized the seat belt reminder does not come on when the seat belt is not latched around the occupant. It does show that it is working when you turn the key to the 2nd stage(DIM shows all advisory lights ok). I'm very concerned since this is my 18 year old's car, will the car's airbags deploy if he is in an accident? I wonder if it is sensing anyone seating in the seat. Will the pre tensioner's work? I really hope it's not the dreaded DIM replacement($$$$). I also checked under the seats in hope of finding a loose connection, to no avail. By the way, I have not spoken to the mechanic about it yet. I would hate to go the Dealer and spend over a $100.00 for their diagnostic test

Appreciate any idea's on this problem.

Thanks,

Dave

If the light is not coming on, it probably means that the button in the latch is broken so that car always thinks the seat belt is on. As for the air bags, they will deploy weather or not the driver is wearing a seat belt. Lastly, there is no sensor for the driver's side, only the passenger side, so he will be ok.

Anyway, I would take a closer look at the latch the seatbelt goes into and take it from there.

Thanks. I spoke to the lead tech at a Volvo dealer. He also has a '03 S60 and said that the '03 has only the remainder at initial startup, without any chime.

Appreciate the response. Oh, by the way now the sunroof shade is jammed, and the previous owner had stripped the oil pan plug. Found this out when I went to change the oil and the old threads from the 18 MM tap that was done came out in my hand. So just ordered a 20 MM tap and a F105 Qiuckdrain(200mm) oil drain valve by fumoto. Man, I hope things don't get any worse with the car.

That stinks that the plug is messed up. I had that happen with a motorcycle I had a couple years ago. When you go to tap the pan, be very careful because the aluminum is soft and can mess up the pain very easily. Also, make sure you flush the engine with a lot of oil before you put the new plug in and fill the engine up with oil. This will flush out any metal shavings that may have got inside the engine from taping the new hole. Just buy cheap oil and let it run right into the pan.
