thewhiteguy1
People who have owned one or the other please chime in and list pros/cons. Thanks,
850wagonT5
6 of one, half-dozen of the other. Not a significant difference, and all of these tunes come to market from copying each other anyway. Get the cheaper one. That said, I saw a video that showed a $200 tune that made more dyno power than the almighty $700 RICA tune. So...yeah.
AverageVolvo
I have run St , upsolute, Ipd,Rica, and Bsr tunes. They are all VERY similar and you would need to do a dyno run to notice the differences. It all really depends on which tune has higher Psi, but a Mbc or ebc can override that. Fishey
Upsolute and BSR both have limitations put on boost pressure lower in the RPM band to help prevent rod bending/transmission killing. The ST chip does not and on back to back dyno setup Speed Tuning made more then Rica, BSR, Upsolute. (note only about 2-3hp more) but it did make more TQ sooner as a result of allowing boost to build quicker. Also, the Speed Tuning actually ran about the best A/F ratios IMHO at around 12.2-12.4:1 throughout the graph. The BSR chip was richer (11.8-11.9) and Rica/Upsolute slightly leaner. (12.6-12.8 range) Also, it must be noted that its all pretty worthless once you use a MBC or EBC. -Your Pal Fishey P.S. I currently have a BSR stage 3 tune. thewhiteguy1
Since i already have a thread....I got this in an email from Oliver at speedtuning.... I would suggest you go with the manual file now, then you don’t have to pay twice, its going to run fine while you are still on auto. is any part of this statement true??? AverageVolvo
Oliver W/ St, I wouldn't trust him to package/ ship anything other than gravel. Seriously though his packing skills suck.
Fishey
so are you saying i should remove my mbc once i get a tune? No, just that with an MBC the chips ability to limit boost is pretty worthless I would rather have boost ASAP as it will actually make the car a good deal faster as an automatic. Black Betty
Oliver W/ St, I wouldn't trust him to package/ ship anything other than gravel. Seriously though his packing skills suck. Well if Joey comes back to MD he can drive down there.
RobT5M
Gonna throw this out there... because seems like someone else was wanting the answer. with a tune. which is the best idea to run as boost control. mbc or stock boost controller? regarding the fact an mbc/ebc allows boost to come on faster or what ever. just which is the better (safer) idea
NEU
Well if Joey comes back to MD he can drive down there. I just might get in on this if we can get a group discount for showing up at his door...
Volvo5.0
I just might get in on this if we can get a group discount for showing up at his door... Yeah, I live 5 minutes from Oliver. He's done a couple of tunes for me.
db130
Oliver W/ St, I wouldn't trust him to package/ ship anything other than gravel. Seriously though his packing skills suck. i searched and found all of the horror stories about his packing methods before I decided to go with ST. I insisted that he use a box instead of the non-padded envelope that he typically uses. he'll charge you extra for having to ship your ECU back in a box that you provide, but WELL WORTH IT.
