Tyler T5R
Short story: I have oil on my exhaust manifold near second runner (from front). Why? Long story: During a long drive, my 95 850 T-5R smelled of burning oil. Opened hood and found small plume of smoke coming from rear passenger side of engine. Dip stick showed possible coolant in oil (but could have been condensation from not sealing well). Thought "oh no, head gasket!". Dip stick handle broke off. Drove home slowly. Next day, checked spark plugs – they all look fine. Checked compression (listed from front of engine to rear): 168, 167, 169, 171, 168. Seems OK. Drained oil and coolant into clear containers. Changed oil and filter. Filled coolant. Added UV dye to oil and coolant. There is orange dyed fluid on the passenger side of the exhaust manifold which is smoking when it gets hot (probably oil). Once settled, oil and coolant each showed no contamination. Today, cleaned oil off of exhaust manifold. Replaced oil dipstick and dipstick tube (and o-ring) with newer version (9497550 and 9497557). Old diptsick tube had lots of nasty gunk in it (could have caused the gunk on the old dipstick). Ran car until warm. It started smoking again in same place. Under car, there is again oil on the exhaust manifold in the same place. It appears to be coming from the second exhaust port. Here is a picture of the oil on the exhaust manifold: It almost looks like the oil is bubbling out from the exhaust manifold gasket. Trying to figure out where the oil is coming from. Please help! The car has 143000 miles, had stage 0 and PCV replacement 9000 miles ago. Thanks

Reximus
from my own experience, when mine showed this very symptom, it was my valve stem seals that leaked. i replaced them, and no more oil at the runner. originally thought to be seeping through the sealing surface on cam covers, but leak showed after i cleaned it. cheers! 831t5r
Coulr be valve stem seals. Have you hecked your oil cap seal, make sure it aint cracked and leaking oil to the back. And check cam cover may need a cam cover reseal
Tyler T5R
Oil cap seal is brand new, replaced at every other oil change. What do you mean cam cover seal?
AlvinL
Stem seals. That excess oil is coming out the exhaust and leaking out pass the exhaust gasket.
Tyler T5R
Come on, guys, valve stem seals are boring! Can't you suggest something sexier and more performance oriented, like a turbo upgrade or strut brace? But seriously, thanks for the help. Looks like I'll take the head off and have it rebuilt, 3 angle valve job, etc. I'll be tempted to blueprint and port it, too. Does anyone know a good machine shop in VA (or MD/DC) to do the work? The guy in my town is good but I don't know if he does Vovos.
