550
With with the woofers in the doors, you are going to need to deaden those doors, otherwise rattles are going to get worse heh. But I think the idea would work...
eroc37
yeah.... i know. but it seems the rear door speaker placement is not so good. may be good for a little base...with enough dynamat of course.besides, if my rear doors rattle loud enough, i may not be able to hear my rattling tailgate !!!! Veneficus
IMO you're not going to get too much bass from the doors without a load of work. I think your best option would be to make a small sub box for the passthrough to the trunk and deaden the seats. They are pretty solid as it is. Subs don't have to take up very much room in the trunk at all. When i put mine in I only lost about 1 cube of space or so. I was still able to pack all of my gear for camping and vacations into the trunk without a problem. Now granted I do have a form fitting f-glass box but thats all in good measure. Amps for speakers fit very well under the front seats if you take the seat off of its brackets to mount the amp. Mids and tweeters will work very well for the front. 5 1/4" speakers generally fill the doors however we have a few guys who recently used mdf and installed some 6.5" speakers in the door. The dash holds a 1" tweeter nicely so component sets are perfect matches. Good job in wanting to eliminated the rear deck speakers. For sound deading products we tend to recomend peel and seal, a roof flashing, that does the same exact thing as dynamat except at a fraction of the cost. ($7 for an 80sq foot roll). If any more questions come up fire them off!
Ivanfbi
what if you cut holes in the rear pillar locations, to fit, say 8" subs, and put mid in the rear doors?
prasamin
I don't think 8" subs would fit in the rear pillars....even with alot of cutting, unless you somehow built an enclosure that invades side windows or the tailgate...i think, but I am not in my car right now, and I can't really imagine how the 8" and the pillar would look! Veneficus
Not to mention I think the rear pillar rattles more than any other location in a sedan. Thats the first thing I'm going to peel and seal once the temp heats up a bit more.
spottieottie
Don't you mean rear DECK? I was thinking about putting some tweets in the back somewhere, maybe in the PILLARS Think a custom pod mount or something would work, any ideas? On topic:Delete the rear speakers, get components for the front a nice set of coax's for the back drop a fatty sub in a box facing the pass through and be on your way. A 6 1/2 might get you some decent bass. But if you're going to rebuild door panels, add some 8" subs to the front doors. Lots of companies are making small subs with the magnet in front of the cone (Illusion Audio was one of the first). This allows you to have shallow mounting depth and more airspace for subs. Fiberglass work isn't too hard. Best thing is, if you mess it up too bad you can cut/sand it off and try again. Look for BenW's posts about front door pods. You could also think about making kick-pods for some 6 1/2" or 8" subs. They don't have to be aimed especially well, in fact if you can aim them back up towards the dash a bit you'll get some nice sound. -Chris
Bing_0
my opinion is that unless you are extremely good at installing and fabrication, the best possible place for a bass producing speaker in our cars is in the trunk/cargo area, concentrate on putting the best possible midbass generating speaker upfront, and thats how you will get the best possible overall bass response.
