Guest v70awd
I've got a '98 XC with the stock C-816 radio. I'd like to upgrade it, however I would like to do it using Volvo OEM if possible. I've looked at a couple of posts re. the SC-901, and it doesn't look too promising. Firstly, it's expensive. My dealer quoted me $661.00 for the SC-901, the 50w amplifier, and assorted connection cables, etc. Seems for that price that I could get a pretty darn good system from Crutchfield for that amount of cash. Secondly, the impression that the SC-901 isn't the most reliable, nor does it take nicely to CD-R's. Any feedback would be greatly apprecieated. maiku
it depends if you want to keep stock, or go aftermarketthere are a few radios on ebay that seem to look good
theunderlord
I'm a staunch supporter of aftermarket... The sound quality is far better than OE. You asked for my opinion, and there it is. :)

Veneficus
I just have to echo what Michael and Kevin said. Go aftermarket, you won't regret it.
prasamin
yeah, go aftermarket, and keep the stock laying around if you ever want to sell the car or decide to go stock in the future.
Guest v70awd
Looks like the aftermarkets have it! That, and the fact that I've deicovered that Alpine makes an interface for my iPod. No CD Changer! Nice! Now to figure out how to put it all together to make it look good in my dash.

98BRICK
I disagree...Ive upgraded to the SC901 and it can be done very easily....stay away from the dealer....its true that some dont play CDR's but..that only true for individual units....sound quality is very subjective...but u can upgrade to Volvo/Dynaudio very easy...as far as the sc901 is concerned....there are several people that sell them religiously on ebay and u can check Swedespeed.com...same for the amplifiers....u can get a 4x60 or 4x50 that'll mount under ur dash (behind the HU) or under the passenger's seat.....all u'll need is the volvo cable to connect them....just wait fer someone to install another aftermarket radio and u'll soon have one to buy....i went w/ a 4x100 amp from a c70 and that took some extra effort to make it werk...not just plug and play like the other amps....in the future i will get the dynaudio upgraded speakers...but fer now...the sound is very good for me...and I cant see anyone wasting their time breaking nto my car for my "stock" HU..... good luck

I want to keep the look of the car stock, and this isnt that bad of a HU. Anyone ever connected an aftermarket amp to it and to the speakers? If so were there any wiring issues, ohm issues? Any help will be great appreciated. Peter'98 S70 T5

SubCrash
I have the 901 and dont plan on gettin an aftermarket deck. I havnt seen one that i ever liked or looked good. To me they mostly look like cheap plastic stuff, and i like the dull black finish on the stock radio. As far as burned CDs....use itunes. I used to use other programs to burn and never had any luck with cdrs on stock radios (cept for newer cars) but since i used itunes never had a problem with my 901. With facotry radio's, the slower your burn the CD the better chance of the cd working you have.. FYI.
