Head Gasket Options

Recommended Posts

Well my head gasket has cracked once again, shortly after doing the turbo upgrade. Checked my compression today and it ranged from 90psi to 155psi.... funny because I still pulled on a stage 2 WRX just the other day. Ive heard rumor of the S60R gasket being a better bet, anyone know the specifics about this?

^^^ that

...and the S60R MLS gasket is thicker than stock so you will affect (lower) your compression ratio everything else being the same.

...and the oil and cooling ports do not match up so you will have to modify the gasket (note it is MLS so this is not as easy as it sounds).

No it was not installed wrong. Its been on the car for 2.5years and around 50K miles.... this car is driven alot in texas heat and is raced multiple times a week.... the extra power doesnt help. I was just looking for a better solution.

As long as the cooling system is fully functional and the car never overheats the gasket should not fail. Doesn't matter the driving conditions or climate, a correctly installed gasket should last longer than that even on a track car.

I have the S60R MLS gasket on my stage III 850, just blew the other day after 12K miles. The 20G at 25 psi and some mild detonation were the likely causes. Just a touch of coolant migration into #2 cylinder.

Granted my situation is probably far from normal, but it can be done without too much issue. Even still not bullet proof...

I'll post up pics later this week.

Doesnt matter, it Shouldnt have failed if ibstalled correctly an your motor never overheated.

Also does not matter what climate you are in as the motors tempature is regulated

Seriously, a properly installed head gasket should never fail?

Thanks lucky.

I can assure you other guys the gasket was not installed wrong as it was done at my family's shop who service all European cars and specialize in Volvo and BMW for 25+ years. I was simply asking for a better solution than a stock headgasket not your opinion on why mine blew, I dont see how you can say they should never fail. Yes they shouldnt break after 50K miles but as you can see my car is not stock and Im running around 21psi.

Becuase there might actually be another issue rather then just the head gasket going bad due to use. If the headgasket on these vehciles were an issue, we would deffinitly be seeing more posts like this.

Anyway, doesnt matter. Have fun getting it replaced again...

cheers!
