Jack8745
after 4 years of not having a front license plate i finally got ticketed. i hate the front plate on our cars, but i been thinking about taking 1965 black plates off of my 1965 ford falcon and going to the dmv and have them moved over to the volvo. does anyone know if this is possible. I have both front and black plates and i think that my black volvo would look great with these on. i know that you can take black plates and put them on older cars but what about transferring them to a new one ? ps the falcon is non op that needs some serious work and wont be running for years... in case someone thinks im "sinning" against the car gods example of a black plate
T-5Bandit
Transferring of the black and yellow plates is typically only between older cars within a certain age range of the plates. I don't believe/nor have a I seen Cali allow transferring to a newer car. Not sure why you want to...the classic Cali plates are better left on the classics. I know there are car restorers in Cali will pay decent money for original black and yellow plates...although some will just repaint the newer plates if the car is primarily show and not street driven much. bdimag
isn't it a big thing to buy old vanity plates online and then get that plate w/ the dmv just to use the old one?
Jack8745
Just spray paint the ones you have on it now. you can do that legally? isn't it a big thing to buy old vanity plates online and then get that plate w/ the dmv just to use the old one? yeah people with old cars do it all the time. you have to have 2 plates to register. i just think it would be cool to have black plates on a black car

EVL WAGN
How about just installing the "hide-a-plate" on the front so that it retracts back under the bumper...cops pull you over and just hit the button and voila...it motorizes back into sight making him question his sanity...lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1zIGPyJunI&feature=related
AverageVolvo
I would be worried that they might be stolen. They would obviously be irreplaceable. Heck even on regular modern plates if they are stolen they have to be reassigned. sux if you have custom plates or antique plates.
