vivalavolvo
I was just thinking about this Lancer Rally Art i went for a test drive in with my buddy. When you pop that sucker into Sport mode it holds lower gears and during typical driving it kept the rev's about 2.5-3k leaving the turbo and engine ready to pounce at your whim. I was wondering if there was a way to re-tune the TCM in a Volvo to do something similar. I think that would be awesome sauce :)

I understand what your saying but I haven't seen anything yet.

Mesoam
lucky did paddle shifting in his 850, not sure how it turned out but he did say he got it working...i know some of the the gear-tronic people have modified the AT's for quicker/firmer shifts, something to do with increasing the fluid pressure IIRC

I know there is an accumulator mod i can do to shorten shift times and make them more stiff.
justjim
hey, my name is jim (95 850 turbo wagon auto 15g and 275ish or so HP maybe more) and i have done the accumulator mod. DO IT ! do a search on "turbobricks" and look for the "free accumulator mod" it was started for redblock guys but the 2 guys that started it (roadracerforlife and linuxman51) are friends of mine and we did it while we were swapping my trans. it can be done with the trans in but it's messy. basically you put a cut off bolt or something inside the spring to keep the valve from opening more than say an 1/8th of an inch and your shifts are firm and the trans lasts much longer. at the track on slicks i "bark" my tire from 1st to 2nd and a "chirp" from 2nd to 3rd if that tells you anything

vivalavolvo
Jim, I've seen the threads and heard if thoes who have done it and its all raves. How is it on a DD? Ard, I will keep in touch. If you have some info I would love to hear what you have planned The combo of these two ideas would make a killer setup. 550
I just shift my trans. Pop her into W mode and go to town. Been driving it this way as long as I have owned the car. (Since 2003) Just gotta know how to finagle it. Actually for the most part my car revs so quick now the auto trans can't even shift before hitting the rev limiter. (Which is now at 7600...) sooooo I really have two options; shift the auto myself and add the "anticipation of a human mind" or swap to a manual. justjim
honestly, i might be hard for DD but i got used to it. from what the guys told me you can shorten the "shims" so the accumulators open more for less shocking results. my wife and kids dont really notice it anymore and its not near as harsh in economy mode. i was racing a caliber SRT4 yesterday and got by him when he shifted his manual. i was gonna get him anyway but the quick shifts with this mod will smoke any regular manual trans. it's instantaneous.
