boosted_brick
the car i bought was missing the glass on the passenger side mirror and i have a whole new one sitting here in a different color i can use to repair it. is it easier to take the mirror itself out or the painted part on the front? i've never done either and i'd rather tear up the extra mirror instead of breaking the one that's still on the car. --Aaron--
You have to very gently pry on the back of the mirror glass and it will snap right out. Be careful and take your time, those suckers like to crack easy.
boosted_brick
i found that out a lil while ago. i bought a car with a broken mirror, but it came with an extra mirror. i ended up cracking the glass on it so i'll be going slower next time. oh well. the commissar!
Yea it was pretty easy to get mine off when I did an upgrade to the wide angle passenger side. Lucky I guess...later I spotted one in a JY and tried to get it off and ... it... c-r-a-c-k-e-d! I don't know what makes one come off easier than another...on the back they just snap on...perhaps you could angle it inward as much as possible to max out the accessible gap and shoot the back of it with some Pb blaster to lube it up a bit, maybe add some heat to soften the plastic... boosted_brick
stuff balls, i hadnt even thought of using pb blaster. brilliant! i may still try to take this mirror out so i can at least see what i'm working with. beats snapping another one i actually pay for. db130
I've removed several glass panels from JY cars before and it's not too bad, but I've also bought just the glass panel from an ebay seller named "needfulthings6764 " - usually less than $15 shipped
Dave 54
angle the mirror outward as much as possible to max out the accessible gap at the window and with said window down stuff your fingers in there and ever so lightly pull outwards, has worked everytime with no casualties.
