Simota Catch Can

Kit Vexed

Recommended Posts

i know i know - another catch can thread! @ least i didnt put it in performance lol. i was looking around for bolt on catch can kits as i dont care to do trial/error and parts hunting for a DIY. came across the Simota kit and wondered if anyone was lazy like me and just wanted to buy something that was ready to just bolt on... wondering about the fit, finish, quality and esp the FUNCTION. it's $89.99 on Viva so it's not a ton of cash, but i dont want to buy crap either. it's carbon and has a see-through window (kinda like a quart of oil has) on the side so you can monitor when you need to drain. even if you dont have it for the 850, they all do the same thing so all experience reviews welcome. thanks guys

wholy crap thanks A LOT man! i woulda straight up paid $89.99 lol. i take it this is a universal kit from Simota and not model specific as seemingly on Viva for the '850'. again, thanks a lot.. so how does this go? where does the hose go? does this hook up and replace the hose coming from the oil trap to the fresh air pipe? never knew how the catch can worked but understood its purpose; to stop the oil from migrating in the intercooler pipes!

No worries, that is what we are all here for. :) The kit is universal and the installation is pretty straight forward. Not sure if they include any instructions with the kit but here are some links to installs that may help.

(good info w/diagram).

Just read up on it, there are several more threads on installation. I have not done this mod yet so I have limited knowledge but when you read through these threads note who has done them and PM them for any questions you have. Good luck, the Simota kit looks pretty nice, got me thinking I may want to do this now. The mods never end...LOL

Nice, let us know about the quality and you better have a nice step by step write up w/ pics on the install. ;)

I can't image install will be that difficult. Biggest thing will be where I actually mount it. I will be running it in series with the stock system so it should be easly to install. I will be installing a new air cleaner setup soon, so the catch can will most likely be installed at the same time.

yah Zappo, do us up a write-up w/pics so i can copy you! naw, thanks to hooligan (for everything) i read up on the catch can threads and i *think i got it. the thicker hard line from the pcv connects to the supplied hose and goes up into the inlet (not sure which is in/out on this Simota kit though?) nozzle. you then use the supplied hose to connect to the outlet nozzle and go down where the stock thicker hardline wouldve connected to the elbow/ptc. so you're just redirecting that pcv thicker hardline through the catch can and down to where it wouldve gone into the elbow? is it this easy or am i silly?

No guy that is pretty much it and the kit looks like it has everything you need. :D

Geez, now I am under pressure.

I should have it this week, so I will see what I can do over the weekend. No promises though. :)

It doesn't look like I will be able to do the intake at the same time as it looks like it will more work than I expected.

like you said Z, the mounting is prob going to be the hardest thing.. ideally i'd like to get it as close to the ptc as possible. the firewall/torque mount/strut bar area is what im hoping for.. still need it high enough to drain, but also want it to look hot! ya know, fool ppl into thinking it's some custom part i fabbed up lol. you'll get yours before me, so the pressure IS on! take pics plz though - if we're all going to get the same can, this would be a huge help. oh, so which nozzle is accepting the pCv line, and which is going to the pTc?

I know a few members that did this install added a drain line to the drain fitting on the bottom catch can and then routed it to an easy to reach area under the front bumper or there abouts so they could just put a drain pan under it and turn the valve to drain.

The inlet should be below the outlet. So the lower port is from the breather box and the upper port goes to the PTC.

I mounted mine right next to the intake. Again, lower inlet is from the breather box, and the port on top of the can is going to the PTC.

Added a drain at the bottom:

The line goes between the battery tray and the intake and shield (it's the clear tube next to the ground cable and the clutch line) and comes out the bottom behind the front bumper:
