boxpin
I am doing my manual swap and am inside the trans. The shift position arm has some wear and I am concern. Will this be an issue?
matt b
I haven't opened one, so I can't speak much. Contact Johann or look at his threads, he's opened up an M56 or three before. Out of curiosity, why open it ? We can't buy parts for these, the only hope is to source a junk one with another problem.

lookforjoe
Quaife Nice! If you're referring to the slight wear on the brass, I wouldn't worry about it. It's the tips of the forks, esp if it has the plastic tips that actually ride in the synchro hubs - I believe that's the area of concern. As long as those & the synchro cones are intact, I would expect you are good to go.
boxpin
Ok, thanks. I have not seen the quaife yet. It got delivered to my work and a coworker is bringing over tonight. I see the speed sensor ring on the OEM diff, is the quaife going to have the ring or will I need to pull it?
bum2kev
no need to take anything out to install the quaife... the diff comes right out when you unbolt it.
boxpin
Nice, now you tell me. I have been reading all these write ups and they all pull the clusters...so I followed blindly. I can see it now. I am replacing the bearings too. The bearing race, how do you get it out? I read that you can weld a bead around it and when it cools it comes out. Anyone try this? boxpin
ok, got the races out. It was easy. Now I am stuck on this pivot pin. It wont budge. thoughts?

Install went fairly quickly. Now I am stuck on this pivot pin. It wont budge. thoughts? If you are replacing it, just keep working at it. Clamp down with some vice grips and pry with a screw driver. It will come out. Maybe hit it with some penetrating oil.
boxpin
ok, got that out but the new one is shorter. The fork did not have the plastic piece on it when I pulled the trans from the donor car....does the plastic spacer make up the difference? boxpin
Pedals are in Had to cut off and weld on the stop plate for the clutch pedal. I used my existing frame and swapped pedal arms. Is there supposed to be some sort of rubber stop so when the pedal is at rest against the stop plate it is not metal to metal?

It seems that Volvo didn't come out with the plastic clip until 97, so you don't have to have it.
bergmjs
Why replace the fork pivot ball? It's just a steel ball, it won't go bad. Polish it and grease it, then you know you have the ball.
