TryingBe
85 Dodge Omni GLH. Carroll Shelby inspired car. GLH stands for Goes Like Hell. Goal for this car is for it to be a nice comfortable daily driver with a/c and somewhat good gas mileage. Looks wasn't an requirement, you either like it or don't, not my concern. It weights 2500lbs with a driver, ran a best of 14.5 at 97mph at only 12 psi with every conservative spark timing. The setup should be good for around 24 psi with pump gas with lower compression pistons. 2.5L with a T04E 50 trim and Cosworth .48 turbine housing. Positive boost pressure comes in around 1700rpm, spool faster than my Turbo Volvo 850 with a small 15G! Reason why the intercooler is in the front is due to I want to have a/c. There is just no space inside the engine compartment for an intercooler, with the a/c condenser. And yes, I got many questions regarding to what it is, and lots of stares. Not going to paint the intercooler black, nor make grille for it. No point, paint on the rest of the car looks like crap anyways. Beside, the intercooler sticks too far out. At 12psi, with very conservative timing. 1st time running with open downpipe. It's a loud quieter now with 2 mufflers and a cat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8N47k7siqWo?hl=en&fs=
--Aaron--
You should restore the exterior, those GLH's are pretty mean. My father had so many of just the regular non turbo model.....good, reliable, long running cars! I would personally go back to stock GLH wheels. Only complaint I really have is that the I/C looks really......odd.
Matty Moo
Nice. Never had a GLH Omni, just the regular 2.2. I always wanted one though, and would still scoop one up if I could find a clean one. I did have a Shadow CSX turbo, Shelby Daytona, New Yorker turbo and a Spirit 2.2 turbo. Relatively quick for their time and bulletproof. The old man is retired from Chrysler and just about every other relative I have worked there...so you end up owning odd cars like that. I've never bought a new car that wasn't Chrysler/DCX. EVL WAGN
There was a GLHS brought into Carlisle this year for the Car Corral...never got a chance to get over and see how much they wanted for it. I use to have an 86 Turbo Z CS myself running 17lbs...it was a blast. The head gasket was never an issue on mine...mine just chewed through trannys and clutchs like a fat kid with smarties....lol Identical to the one in Carlisle
