T Belt Question . . . . ?

How many interference motors have you heard of that start up & don't bend valves. not Jumping to conclusions. . . .but more than likely they're bent. Will see

I've seen quite a few that didn't suffer catastrophic failure. Recently we had a 960 in the shop that belt jumped off on and both cams were off 1/4 turn. Lined it back up and she purred. Don't pull the head unless your sure you have 0 compression.

These are DEF off more than 2-3 teeth. Nobody said Anything about being lazy. I have 6 personal car's. . . .so if one sits for a minute it doesn't bother me one bit. I'll align the timing just for GP. but am betting they are bent as it has No compression & not a hint of firing up. at 155K it won't bother me to do a head & surrounding parts as the car will probably go to my 15 yr old daughter in 6 months. If I get around to checking it Monday I'll be sure to update the post.

So the deeper I tear into it the Less I find wrong, Other than there's NO compression. At ALL. Originally I thought the T-belt broke, . . .Nope, then I thought, ok . . . .the tensioner must have failed & the cam's jumped a few teeth. . . .Nope, aligned all the timing mark's up & everything appears to be in time. But again, Have NO compression.

Checking the lower crank key first thing tomorrow. Then tearing the head off.

The earlier motor's may have had a keyed lower gear, Mine has splines. . . . . Everything checked out on the bottom end. Tore the head off to find "Stuck" valves. . . . . .Not bent (don't appear to be) but there were valves stuck open. Taking it to my Machinist tonight to have him tear into it . . . . .See what he can determine, & RBLD it.

Well more than likely it's something else. we smacked each valve from the top & they all closed. Flipped it over, put the plug's in & filled the chamber's up with water 3 & 5 had very slight leak's. It would seem they stuck in the guide's for some reason. just enough to hang them up. The head will get RBLT either way. It's always nice to have a machinist for a buddy. Either way, Interested to see just what he has to say about it. The car has 155K on it & has never missed a beat as far as the engine goes. Just a PITA for it to cause such a hassle & have to pull the head when it didn't really need to. We didn't think to smack the valves while the head was one. . . .Thinking the valve's were bent it would do no good. Time will tell.

yup, sometimes they won't have markings if it was a soft hit that just bent the valves. why else would they be stuck open? not much that can cause that other then being tweaked by the piston.

Welp, Sure enough my Machinist figures it out in a matter of a 2 minute conversation. about 2 or so month's ago the fuel pump went out in the thing. it had acted up before, but died out of the blue one day. when I changed the pump I found what at first I thought was Sand in the tank. My buddy say's it was more than likely Sugar. How the Fuck it got in there I'd like to know. Either way he'll go thru the head completely & it should be fine. We'll see.

So just because something seems like the obvious doesn't mean it is.
