Smog Q

Recommended Posts

Hey,

So inspection time is near again, and last year i had a waiver for spending X amount on fixing the issue.

Last year i put in a new O2, full tune up ect and still failed smog in PA. The car came with a full custom exhaust and the only thing i can think of at this point is that there is no cat. There is a thing on there that looks like one but i think it just might be a glasspack or something. Car runs great, 32-34 MPGs highway. Does this sound likely that there is no cat at all on this thing?

The other thing is, and i was told not to worry about it, but the post-cat O2 is not in the stream, throwing a check engine light. I was told the ECU only uses it to check up on the cat and does not involve it with any calculations. Who ever made the exhaust put it on a tube that bends 90° from the pipes O_o. I do plan to fix that so i can ditch the check engine light.

EDIT: 1995 850 T5

EDIT2: In PA, any cars before 96 will not fail for check engine light. As long as the tailpipe is clean.
